Default 2006 Charger AWD trans will not engage

Car has been in limp mode the last few weeks and test driven 1x per week limited to 35mph. The motor revs fine in Park or Neutral, when in gear motor RPM is limited to 3000 RPM & 35MPH.
Tomorrow have an appointment at Dealership for air bag recall and Limp scan. Now car wants to stay in driveway!!!! Starts fine, rev's fine, however trans will not shift into gear. The PRND display luminates with key on and goes dark when motor starts.
With key on (motor not running), PRND luminated, I can shift into a gear and corresponding PRND gets a box depicting gear. When the motor starts, the PRND display goes dark and trans does not engage. In both Park and Neutral, motor still revs fine, in Reverse & Drive, motor RPM limited to 3000 RPM. Any suggestions? Thanks, Pete

UPDATE: added 2 quarts of fluid and the PRND display now stays luminated. Picked up a TCM at Pick & Pull and installed it no change, put the original back in. Tried to move the car with a tow strap, car will not move as the AWD system is in Park. So with this said: 1.) the PRND display gets a box for which gear the selector is in. 2.) in Park & Neutral, the motor rev's up normal. 3.) In Reverse & Drive, the motor partially rev's up to 3000 RPM as if driving in Limp mode. Any suggestions why the Transmission will not come out of Park? Thanks, Pete

Good News - problem found. On the drivers side of the Nag 1 transmission is a cable that attaches to the transmission - it popped off. Pushed it back on. Will have to figure out how to make it permanent, there is not c clip or cotter pin to keep it on there. Thanks to every for their suggestions.

Probably need to replace the bushing in the cable end, either that, or replace the entire cable.

It's a rubber bushing/grommet that is supposed to pop it on and keep it in place.
