Dodge Charger The Dodge Charger. The car that made its competitors shiver in the 60's is reborn in 2006 into a sleek sedan that can still send the competition home wimpering, the Dodge Charger.

Default In over my head

Hello everyone. I usually hang out in the Ram forums, but I'm working on my son's 2007 Dodge Charger SE with the 2.7 engine. It's got roughly 246,000 miles on it. He just recently got it and didn't look it over or have it checked out (he does that to me often). I finally got into looking at it and it's riddled with DTCs, shoddy and questionable wiring job on the radio (I'm redoing that now), and my son said it will not start sometimes, the headlights will go out, and then if he smacks the dash they come back on. Below is a list of all the DTCs I pulled with my scan tool (10 total). I've got some suspicions but I want to see what yall think. I've never worked on one of these new chargers, I'm more comfortable with the old ones lol.

B161F - READING LAMP CONTROL CIRCUIT LOW
B210D - BATTERY LOW VOLTAGE (the battery is dated 10-22 and the idiot who wired up the radio wired it into continuous power, so unless you manually turn it off it stays on. I'm charging the battery now).
B1202 - AIRBAG WARNING INDICATOR CIRCUIT OPEN
B1608 - HEADLAMP SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT HIGH (Previous owner said he replaced the switch in hopes of fixing the headlight issue)
B2204 - ECU CONFIGURATION MISMATCH
U0019 - CAN B BUS
U0121 - LOST COMMUNICATION WITH ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) CONTROL MODULE
U0155 - LOST COMMUNICATION WITH CLUSTER/CCN
U0184 - LOST COMMUNICATION WITH RADIO
U0212 - LOST COMMUNICATION WITH SCM

If necessary I will go through and trace each circuit, but from what I've been told this sounds like it may be a bad TIPM?

Again, I'm clueless with these newer Chargers, ANY help is greatly appreciated!

That B2204 code would make me nervous. Has the PCM been replaced, but not flashed for the correct VIN?

I was a little nervous about that one too. I really know nothing about this car. I'm learning as I go with this thing. My son has only had it a couple of weeks and I've had it for 3 days. I discovered some really hacked-up electrical work, someone put in aftermarket HID's and the car has been rear-ended (I've got a new trunk lid to put on). So your guess is as good as mine. It would not surprise me if someone did that though.

Thank you for putting my head in that train of thought. I've discovered a few TSB's associated with B2204 and U0155 that are all seeming to point in that direction, not to mention they told me where to focus my wiring inspections.

Let us know what ya find out.

If you have a scanner that can read it, it *should* also display the VIN for ya.... see if what the PCM has, matches the plate on the body.

I tried, my scanner will read the VIN on some vehicles, but for some reason (probably the PCM) it said it couldn't. I've got a Foxwell NT809 which works great for me, just tinkering on vehicles for family and friends. It just kinda surprised me when it wouldn't read the VIN.

I will definitely keep this thread updated as I figure things out.

OK. I found out the battery was bad, I got a new battery cleared the codes and pulled only the active codes. I was also able to have my scanner detect the VIN in the PCM this time and they do match! That's a relief. What I have left now seems like a lot of just more normal troubleshooting.
B1202 - Airbag Warning Indicator Circuit Open
U0184 - Lost Communication With Radio
B1630 - Right Low Beam Control Circuit High
B1B06 - Driver Airbag Squib 2 Circuit Open
B1B02 - Driver Airbag Squib 1 Circuit Open
B1203 - SRS Warning Indicator Circuit/Performance
B1B95 - Passenger Seat Track Position Sensor Circuit Open
B1B93 - Passenger Seat Track Position Sensor Circuit Low
B1B8F - Driver Seat Track Position Sensor Circuit Open
B1B8D - Driver Seat Track Position Sensor Circuit Low

I'll let y'all know what I find out as this journey continues, hopefully, it will benefit someone else in the future.

I would highly recommend getting a service manual for the car, if you don't already have one. Not just a chiltons, or haynes manual. A REAL Factory Service Manual. Yes, with captial letters.

You read my mind I've been working on that today. It's been too hot and humid (Heat index near 100 with actual temp 88) here in north Alabama to work outside and accomplish much today. Yesterday was spent getting tires, a battery, lugnuts, OH, and my best find...a website that has just about anything one might when it comes to taps, dies, thread chasers, etc. https://jawco.com/ I've got an M14x1.5 rethreading die on the way to clean up the studs. Couldn't find one locally.
