Default New Charger Owner :)

Hi guys. Ive just purchased an 06 Charger R/T, and I've never ever owned anything remotely close to as fun as this car is. Im a 27 year old, who can barely afford the car, but I can afford it !!!!

Its midnight pearl black, and I am getting the GT kit installed. I originally wanted a Daytona, however the colors (red, orange, yellow) arent really my style, so went with R/T + GT Kit.

Before I get any farther, I'll point out that im fairly car retarded. Ive never had the opportunity to play much with cars that needed/desired to be played with , so its more of a lack of experience than anything

I just have a couple of questions. First one being, Chrome exhaust tips.

The R/T comes with the dual cat-back exhaust, however, mine at least, lacks chrome tips... I am wondering if anyone here knows if they are supposed to be OEM or not with the cat back, because if I want the OEM ones, I have to order the entire exhaust system. Part 2 of this question...If they are not supposed to be on there already, could someone please help choose a proper aftermarket tip for me! Or at least some suggestions!

My second question!

Again, this is my biggest purchase ever, and the SX 2.0 sport that I had for 3 years previous to this did not really need much TLC. This car definately will. I found myself washing the dust off of it about 5 hours after I got it home. Now, being that I chose the midnight pearl black, its going to be hard as hell to keep clean. Does anyone here have tips/products to help keep this car looking as beautiful as it is? I was told to only use a chamois on it, but i am also curious about proven tire shine, car waxes etc etc

Ty all in advance,

One very happy new Charger owner

Welcome CarInept, nice ride!

I have heard of the GT option but I'm not up on what that adds to the car. I believe the R/T performance pkg and Daytona have the tips. Some are rolled some are not. Keep you eye out for someone moding thier exhaust (ie. putting on a CATback) possibly you can get them to chop and ship the tips to you.

Car TLC products: your going to get a lot of responses on this. I use a lot of Mothers "power products" <= thats just what Mother calles this line of products. Clay/Showtime Instant Detailer/Carnauba Wax. For the dust try a Car Duster, google it and you find lots of products.

Thanks! I was thinking of using mothers as well, since its what i used on the SX's rims

The car duster would be invaluable to me, as I live about 2 blocks away from a large lumber mill, and I get "fly-ash" on my car (and in vents) pretty much daily.

As for the tips, Im probably going to have to go aftermarket. Someone suggested Magnaflow, and Im going to research that further, however...as I stated before, this is my starting point for car enthusiasm, and I honestly couldnt tell you the differences other than appearance in exhaust tips. To give you an idea of my ignorance at this point, when I talked to our local car parts guy, about an exhaust tip...He asked me what size the pipe was, and I had no idea. Bear with me, and Ill figure it all out! Im a fast learner, but I figured this would be the place to ask advice, since it seems filled with knowledgable and capable people )) Any insight into which kind of tip I need would be much appreciated.

Also, tho I'm not sure if it matters, part of the "GT Kit" is a new rear fascia, I believe to accentuate the exhaust tips even more than they are already.

Thanks again

(Ill post a pic of my car once these clouds go away, and again next week after my parts come in for the spoiler etc )

On those tips shop around, if the people didn't walk out to you car and take a look at the pipe that isn't a good sign. Tips are a personal preference so those 5.5" tips I drool over you would probably puke on LOL... OK that's extreme but you get the idea.

I believe your pipe is 2.5" at the tail.

Just measured my pipe, looks like its probably 2.5 in coming straight out of the muffler, however it flanges out to 3 inches at the mouth. The thought that im supposed to cut off the 3 inch part has crossed my mind, however it wouldnt leave much room on the 2.5 part, since its only an inch and a bit long :P

I owned a black car for 6 yrs and let me tell you, what a nightmare!!! The single most value to black car care is to use the microfiber detailing towels from costco when drying. If you can't find them at costco, they are all over Ebay. Do not use terry towels when drying your car because they will produce swrill looking marks over time. Also every 6 months use the mothers claybar kit and rewax the car.

So, I'm a little confused on this exhaust tip thing.

The exhaust that I have now, runs about flush with the rear bumper. Its 3 inches wide at the mouth. The exhaust tips that Ive been looking at are 3 inches in, and 4-5 inches out. However, the 3 inch part on them is only about an inch long. The remainder is 5-10 inches, depending on tip. I dont really want the tip to stick out half a foot past the rear bumper... These are the clamp on variety of tip. Is there something im missing? Should I cut the 3 inch part of hte steel pipe off, and then get a 2.5 inch tip welded right next to the muffler?

There are so many options. Most that I've heard of have cut and welded.

I initially put on a product from Blastin Bob... "Blastin Bob's tail pipes". They came w/the tips and installed by cutting about 2' off the rear and clamped those "tail pipes" on.

...I hear alot of peeps talking about this claybar thing.Exactly what is it?
You spray a lubricant on a small area of the car and rub (more like glide) the clay over that area. The clay is a lot like silly putty, you kneed it after each section is done and then do another. The bar is supposed to be able last about two or two and a half cars.

Theory is the clay pulls impurities out of the paint, it also strips the wax.

Here is the process:
Wash the car
...Optional - some use bug-tar remover at this point to get all the gunk off the car (like around the lower tire wells)
Clay the car
Wash the car again
Wax

It's time consuming but isn't hard to do and the paint surface is slicker than snot.

Watch out for off brands as I’ve heard they can streak and discolor the paint.

I started using clay when I de-badged my car. What ever they used to apply the spears lightened the paint under them and the clay removed that stuff and evened the color out. None of the other exterior badges did that.
