GTO vs. Charger
i was looking on a GTO forum and there was every one bashing the chargers what do u guys think of the gto vs the charger? like in the 1/4 and just overall the 04 and 06 gto are pretty nice but the only real diffenece is the weight issue and then the 06 have the 6.0 400 hp but i was just curious cuz i was going to buy a 06 gto before the charger but i had a baby and didnt want 2 doors but now i dont no if it was a good decision i mean the gto are ugly but that engine is pretty sweet did i make the right desicon
I guess it depends on what's right for you. If you're talking "strictly" performance, then the GTO vs. Charger, straight up, stock, the GTO is going to take the Charger. But, if you're talking something along the lines of practicality, comfort, etc., then the Charger wins, hands down, IMO. When it comes to strictly performance, i.e, quarter mile times, I'm sick of people trying to compare the Charger vs. Mustang/GTO. They are two, completely, different classes of cars. But that's just my opinion. The Charger also gets better mileage than the Mustang; don't know about the GTO; there are a lot of GTO people that claim, as some old Charger folks, that the new GTO isn't "really" at GTO, too.
But these are just my opinions. You gotta decide what's right for yourself.

hi there im in the same boat as you my kids arent new borns 15,16 ,18 but 4 doors beat 2 doors hands down.yes the charger can be a competitive car but the sweat part is that it can be an everyday car as well .
I'm leaning towards the Charger also, as most family folks would do if picking between the two. The GTO guys probably laugh at the fact that the Charger has 4drs and can carry a family comfortably...that's cool with me
Here's how I bottom line it and I'll use the SRT-8 in my example just for performance matching.
Charger........performance......pratical.....looks good
GTO. ............performance......looks good
Granted they are close in weight comparison.
Though the GTO can seat 4, if it's anything like any other performance coupe, the backseats are more for seating little kids and throwing your coat on them after a long day at work or even bags of groceries from a quick run to the store. I see the set of backseats to be important and those backseats are just embarrassing.
So, as mentioned, the Charger really isn't the right comparison, although being compared to performance oriented cars is kind of flattering. I think the correct comparison would be the Viper, Mustang or how about Porsche, etc (the GTO for those that I lost just then).
Why is the Charger compared to coupes anyway? Performance wise are the coupe owners really threatened by the Hemi? By no means am I saying that the Hemi is a slouch, I just think they feel threatened.....man, what are they going to do when the Challenger comes out...

I agree...although, it can't be that neat since they stopped making or shipping them to the states, lol.
I say, keep the Holdens in Australia GM and make something more American for America

GTO.... Nice car, even though it's a glorified Grand Prix with a LOT more performance.
A very good friend of mine bought a GTO in early February, thinking he could make a family car out of it. He traded it in within two months, tired of getting the kids in and out of the cramped back seat through two doors- on a Lexus. He loved the car, loved the power, but it just wasn't what he needed as a family car.
We got the Charger for the same reason most of you did, and ultimately, the same reason my friend traded his GTO. We WANTED 4 doors with style and performance. It suits ALL of our needs.
Now when the Challenger comes out, and I trade the Cruiser in on that, we'll have all of our bases covered.
24.5 mpg with the 4 door Charger R/T - don't really care what the Challenger gets........ NOT gonna try to domesticate a true muscle car.
