Dodge Charger The Dodge Charger. The car that made its competitors shiver in the 60's is reborn in 2006 into a sleek sedan that can still send the competition home wimpering, the Dodge Charger.

Default BS Meter

I've realized my BS Meter (the same brand as MN's) is maxed out. I'm sick of Dodge showing us things, and then our cars not repeating. I saw the brochure with a Yellow Daytona like mine smoking the tires to the point of having rubber stuck to the Quarters...BS. The Dodge commercial with the Charger R/T sideways spinning the tires... yeah right. The claims of gas mileage like a 4 cylinder... whatever. The same crap for my truck. Yeah, it's got a Hemi... but not enough torque to pull a monkey off a cupcake. It sure is nice buying $65,000 worth of product and being dissapointed. There's nothing like being laughed at by my brand X buddies when my Mopars let me down.

Wheeeww... That's better
Mike

I know what you mean, Mike. I'm feeling the same way. I love my Charger, but I'm considering either trading, or putting it back as close to stock as I can. I'm worried the tranny is going to let me down. DCX teased us, and tempted us, and we bought it. I'm about done.

listen everyone calm down im very convinced the cars have a hidden trap door somewhere in either the programming or parts wise.personally i believe the company is hidding 70 hp .my reason for this is simple dcx claims 350 hp but everyone that has actually dynoed the car has had a baseline of around 280.a 70 hp difference example go to jbaexaust.com or any exaust company website youll see the same result.know 70 hp is big.ive seen a cool product which i think may help close the gap its at www.highhorseperformance.com its in the electronics section its 229 or at gsmotorsports.com at 199 and consists of a kit that installs in about a 1/2 hour and at the flip of 2 switchs you let the fan turn or sooner and eliminates torque managment .after your done racing return to normal.i think personelly its done on purpose for legal issues and the last thing dcx wanted was idiots crashing all over the place causing people not to buy the car basiclly a marketing idea ,heck who wans to buy a car that has a reputation of crashing(even though it would be driver error besides lawyers have done a great job of blaming the car these days not drivers)....especially when the car is being looked at by police dept and if to powerful would be counter productive actually.yes fast being bad how can that be.before everyone starts yelling at me listen.lets face some facts most people cops included drive 4 cyl 80 -100 hp cars.now all of a sudden there in a 350 hp car driving around in urban settings now your doing 80 or so and all of a sudden a car pulls out of a parking spot, because there are so many good drivers out there.well now there are a crap load of people going to the hospital.so i think the engineers at dcx decided to give stock cars enough power to make the cars quick and agile but not that over the top hp.lets also face this fact the engineers at dcx know that teh capable drivers will tinker with the cars and get the extra hp out of them and at the same time they would also be the better drivers (and most responsible).because if these cars where put out at there max there would be a market for all these extras exaust superchips etc.........not too mention with all the crashs that would take place the insurance rates would go through the roof, ins execs would foam at the mouth with the premiums they would chargeif they did.heck 1 company told me they wouldnt insure the car because the replacement parts are to expensive.what they where realy saying was that there are no aftermarket companies that make b.s parts to put on them and the only parts available are original .well anyways thats my personel opinion dont shoot me ,but we live in an age of tecnical advancement and lawsuits so buyer beware patience will prevail things will come out to make them faster and better .

Hey guys,

I'm stuck too, but I have two problems: first, I'm a big car guy, and two, I am a Mopar guy. I drove the Fury & Polara 440s and 383s in the days and had my Plymouth GTX muscle car. I love a big car. I like Mopar.

I can see what you are all saying. I don't quite feel the same. But I feel you are not wrong. Here: For me, I feel the Daytona would have been almost perfect with the 6.1 in it. The looks of the Daytona are much better than the SRT8 body (ie, my suede inserts on my Daytona are black, stitching and radio/shifter covers are Mango to match the car much classier than silver suede with red stitching). I don't love the 5.7 engine, but I like it. The mileage isn't bad and it isn't terrible for performance. With proper ECU tuning, and someone will have it right sometime, the engine would have plenty of moxie. The looks are tough to beat for a four door big car. Even the young kids like it. The girls and women love it. It is a head turner. It's comfortable. I like the amenities.

In the old days my big Fury or Polara would run a 5.6 60' with the 440 auto with posi. It would run a 14 something in the quarter. Heck, my Daytona does that and gets much better milage at 25 MPG, to boot. And it's looks and amenities are much superior. And so is the technology. I don't have to fiddle with points, carbs, or plugs for 100,000 miles, better brakes, better suspension, and more dependable.

When you get out of your rock hard ride Road Runner (my GTX with the Dana 60 and Hurst 4 speed road like a lumber wagon [ had seven leaf springs on one side and nine on the other ]), and bad milage with fuel you can't get anymore so you have to detune the engine, and then worry about it when you go on a trip; and when it is HOT you can't drive it because it doesn't have air (my GTX couldn't be driven above 80 degrees because it would bake you inside the cabin), you'll love your Daytona.

Nothing is perfect. Maybe Dodge pushed the envelope to get us baby boomers to buy. I'm not fully happy either. But I'm much more happy with what I have than what I had, and I haven't regretted it. I just regret winter coming...

3767, usually Hemi's are not bought for in-town PD units due to it's not a "highway" cruiser. However, with the dual-purpose Hemi, that might change, depending on the department's view. Some will get the six, some the Hemi. Sheriff's would get the Hemi. Highway Patrol the Hemi's. The rest of the car makes a nice patrol package for sure. Basics are basics. Headers, intake, cam -- yep, now I'm faster!

If SC would get their poop in a group and come up with a rip snorting dependable tuning curve for my Daytona maybe that's the answer. But I can already go fast enough for Mike to turn on me and give me his signature .

Dave, if you trade in your RT I think all the Daytona would give you is more looks. If you have the Road package, I think it's the same isn't it? Or are you jumping ship for the SRT8, or Challenger?

Mike, glad you vented. It would be fun if all of us got together in Vegas for a quick cola drink next June. Hey, Dave can you make it to Vegas next June? We'll all meet at... pick it Mike! (I'm planning on driving back out to see my Dad in CA for Father's Day) -- I use I15 through Vegas -- it would be fun to stop and BS -- without the meter . Anyone else close to Vegas during that time?

MN

You are all fare weather fans .

I cant believe you all are saying that. I love my charger runs drives and looks rad. I cant think of a better car for under 30k. Please show me a better car for that kind of money that looks really cool and drives fast. Dont say PUS-stang.

If the trainy goes its under warrenty no harm no foul. If I get any BS from the dealer that its not covered then I will jump on the ban wagon. But for now Dodge has the coolest car on the market!

I think I hear the Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa- bulance drving up to your house.

I don't recall Dodge ever saying 350 rwhp! If they did, then screw em!! I am happy *** a pig in sh$t with my Charger. I have a 69 RT SE with a 440 4spd and it has nothing on the new ones. The only reason I keep it is because I love the car and it will be my retirement $$. So you guys are saying you would rather have Mustang or some other piece O' Crap from GM or Ford?? R U Kidding???!!! As far as burnouts Ive had more rubber on my quarters than Carter has pills!! Nothn wrong with venting but I don't really see what the problem is!!??

My car smokes them up and drives like it is on rails. I have never heard of the 70hp diff at the Dyno. Dodge does advertise 350HP. Can someone confirm th HP rating?? My car feels like it pushing more thast 270 hp but never dyno ed it.

I am not a fan of the Chevy Monte Carlo unless you are speaking of the 1987-88 non areo back ones. Those were cool rides!
