Default Cam install

I made my last run for stuff at lunch and am ready to start swapping out the stock cam for the KRC 212 LX tonight.

Here’s what’s going in this weekend:
KRC 212 CAM (Comp Cam grind)
Comp Cam:
...Beehive Springs part # 26918 (set of 16)
...Titanium Retainers part # 772-16 (set of 16)

The push rods didn’t make it in time so they will be installed later. Here’s the poop on them: Manley Push Rods - 5/16 (8-intake x 6.6" and 8-exhaust 7.825”) part # 26570

I’m not getting started until after I drop off the kid at the X's this evening but I’m hoping to put in 5+ hours today then startup again early Saturday. I’ll keep you posted with progress.

What's the power band of this cam? And why the Manley push rods - just a little extra insurance? What are your expectations. I can hardly wait!

I'm hoping to be pushing an additional 15+ HP on the swap. The Rods were least expensive so I tossed them on the list and yea the Titanium (let's here it now... WhoopWhoooo) retainers (going to save a lot of weight with these NOT). I didn't want to skimp on the valve train so I'm putting the good stuff in. If/when I get heads I'll get them stripped since I'll have everything else.

Only got a couple hours in last night but hitting it hard this morning.

Here’s what’s off at this point: Fascia, valve covers, radiator & fan, rocker shafts and transmission lines.

After removing around a dozen more things the cam will be out.

Here are a couple snap shots of the progress. Doing lunch now and then will be getting back to the project

The new cam is in and just put the cam tensioner plate on & torqued it down.

It's time to eat then watch some colege ball and let the old body rest. Will continue assembly after a football game or two

It'll be finished sometime tomorrow.

What was the cost?

Looks like a job and a half. Can't wait to hear the numbers.

Cost: (I bought the Springs with a 6.1AC cam and sold the cam) You can get by with just the cam if you go with KRCs 206 or 212 and have a SuperChips Flashpaq.
CAM.............360
Springs.........110
Retainers......230
Push Rods.....110
Total.............810 (not including labor)
I also got some miscellaneous stuff (coolant, lube, beer & tools) roughly 150.

MDS will be intact. There's another grind #218 that will produce more HP (MDS intact) but requires a "special program" and springs. I went with the middle of the road, 212 cam, to advoid the "special program".

I ran into a slight snag [] lost half of a valve spring keeper. I'm running up to the dealer in the morning to get a replacemnt. It'll be running soon after getting the keeper... still have to put the rocker shafts and valve covers (all that miscellaneous stuff like the front fascia). Good thing I took off Monday and Tuesday, I thought I might need extra time and I'm taking the kid to the state fair Tuesday.

Some of the valve springs are totally obnoxious to get to <= that’s the refined version; I used 4 letter words while installing them I got a Blue-Point valve spring compressor (lowest profile one I could find) and still had to use a 2x4 to pry up the engine up on the passenger side to get the lower springs installed, specifically cylinders 4, 6 & 8. On cylinder 2 the fuse box was taken off to allow access. The driver side was no problem.

Off subject: I have to plug one for mnboy... How about that MN football team, they played and won a great game yesterday.
