JATO - Jet Assist Take Off - or something like that. The one that comes to mind is the B-52 bomber - they would attach small jets to the tail end (or somewhere near there) and fire them at take off to help them attain air speed .

Dave's right! The Jet Assisted Take-Off units have had an interesting association with cars. There have been confirmed/unconfirmed rumors that people have attached surplus units to their cars. They have around 5000 lbs of thrust for about 15 seconds. Two of them can put a C-130 military cargo plane in the air in something like 200 ft.

One story was in Car and Driver, and supposedly that guy ended up launching his car by mistake. It is doubtful you could ever match it for acceleration... What the heck, ya had every other mod already...

I will settle for a working AMG tranny, that locks up the torque converter in every gear.

oh yes ive seen them ,there used by the blue angels at air shows .they are pretty awesome sight to behold.now that you guys have planted that seed in my head damn you guys ..well yes i see an amg tranny in my future.but im wondering the guys at kleeman tranny said the trannys are the same except for the internals. so im thinking if the unit was opened and rebuilt using amg internals same tranny would be perfect and cheaper , i wonder if that would be possible?

If you're talking about the colored smoke, that's not JATO. It simply is, colored smoke.
