I know what I gave for it .Its got everything there heads, intake, block 2 sets of pistons one is stock. We had it in a drag car.Is it worth top dollar to this guy and what is top dollar?

It's worth whatever he's willing to pay for it.... seriously, it's getting hard to find an original 426 for anything less than 10K, and I would think that one would command a premium to this guy since it's the original engine to his car; however, the caveat here is that the VINs were not stamped on the engines and matched to the cars they originated in until 1968. In '67, the only thing you can do is make sure the date codes are correct to verify something as 'numbers matching'..... in other words, all he needs is a properly date coded engine to say it's original to the car. I would think that 12-13K would be a fair price to ask for it, as long as it's in good shape. He would probably want some disassembly done to verify internal condition for that kind of $$$ though.

VIN of the car should start as XS29J7. Being disassembled is a good thing, especially for the potential buyer- should put his mind at ease about what he'd be getting for the money.

Hate to break it to you, but if it's a '67 Charger, that's not the original engine to the car. That's the engine ID; the 12-27-67 is the engine serial number stamping date, the 426 is the displacement, the 2376 is the engine assembly date ( which is 1/29/68), the 0014 signifies that it was the 14th engine assembled that day. It has no bearing on the VIN of the car at all.... it is only the engine S/N. With those dates, it leads me to think that you have a '68 model year engine, unless you misread a number.

So how do we know if this is his motor or not since there will be no matching numbers?

One more place to check numbers on the engine is the pad on the upper front of the engine, just to the right of the distributor. Get those numbers and post them here.... I'll see if I can narrow it down further.
