Default Do you need a 4x4?

Many people out there have 4x4s and never use em for the fun of off roading or mud running .
How many people get there 4x4s down and dirty just for the fun of it?
There are many places where a person can have some real fun in there trucks without wrecking them if your willing to take the time to find them.

So take a minute and answer my pole to kill my curiosity.

My truck is my daily driver but if i get a chance to have some 4x4 fun i take it!

I just bought my first 4x4( notice avitar) and unfortunately I just had my first collision is many years in it. So it will be several weeks before I can use the 4WD function. I plan on using it for hunting, camping and taking my son to some of the Ghost Towns out in the California desert. I was hoping to taking out for a little dirt driving in a week or too but that's been rescheduled.

Ours is for this huge hill the Explorer has to climb and 4x4 helps alot in the winter. It's always good to have. We never offroad though.

pembroke, it must not snow much where you live -- because that's one of the main reasons I got a 4x4. That and the occasional off-road jaunt. I generally keep clear of the mud though -- I've been stuck enough times in 4wd tractors to have some respect for the stuff.

Honestly, I'm not sure that I really *needed* one, but I will be keeping this truck for the long haul and I'm sure it'll come in handy at some point. Yes, I do a lot of fishing, and 4WD is helpful with some boat ramps. However, if I was to be honest, I'd say that I probably got it just to say that I have it. That's why you'll see the lone "just to say I have one" response above.

Still, I guarantee that I'll use it for something practical at some point.

Mostly I drive on road in 2wd, but sometimes I'll head up to the gravel pit or on trails and the 4wd is nice. The other day I had to drag my Dakota's sorry little tail home and get my Ram so I could pull a stupid boat out. horray for electronic transfer cases NOT WORKING! Yay, had it about a month and I've suffered my first failure already. At this point it looks like maybe I should have bought the Toyota.
