Default 84 laser

parked a running 84 laser, 2.2 non-turbo over dry grass. went to move it, the car started a little fire underneath. was put out quickly. thought maybe just the battery cables burned and battery ruined. replaced these parts but the laser will not start. does anyone know what is wrong with the laser. could i have done something to the computer when the battery was ruined. it turns over but will not start.

anyone have any ideas. i have another 84 lazer w/ 2.2 turbo 5 speed thats been sitting for years. that one was parked due to a hole in the oil pan. thats what i was told. i was thinking of working it but it needs a ton of work. (windows busted, steering problems, interior shot, paint faded)
eventually i would like put the turbo in the non turbo. but i would like to get the non turbo running first. any ideas or suggestions.

Did you check for spark? Good spark from the coil followed by spark from the plug wires?

finally had a chance to look it over yesterday. yes it has spark at the coil and all plug wires. looked it over still couldn't figure it out. i assume the fuel pump is working cause i can hear it when turning the key to "on". all vacuum lines are connected. going to go over the diagrahm later today to make sure nothing was crossed. (just wondering, can the lines be replaced w/ hoses instead of the plastic) new gas filter didn't help. seems the throttle body is not getting any gas. tried pouring alittle gas in the throttle body. the laser started momentarily but died out again. looked through my Chilton's manual. new to all the sensors and gadgets so any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks.

vacuum lines are ok. i think.
even if the vacuum lines might be connected wrong, the car should start. Right? I'm at a loss.
i tried checking the codes (on, off, on, off, and on) but no flashing check engine light. my break light came on, but did't flash or anything.
checked the fuse box. missing the round flasher for the blinkers; and then there is another plug in next to the flasher thats missing. not sure what that one was.

Just thinking. i noticed there was no power steering belt when i was looking over the vacuum lines. that can't be part of the problem, could it?

fishing for answers. can anyone point me in the right direction? PLEASE.

gave up on it for a while. 84 laser almost started today. EGR vacuum wasn't connected correctly. Getting gas tomorrow to check. Sounded promising though. Would almost turn over w/ out pouring alittle gas in the throttle body. Gas gauge didn't move so i assume it is empty. Anybody knowledgable members of this 2.2 non turbo please reply. I've been reading and it seems the majority of you have newer cars than me. MJ

I have an 85 Laser TBI that had a problem similar to yours. Have an assistant try to start the car after you take the air inlet hose off the throttle body. Make sure your injector is spraying fuel... You will be able to see it. The problem with mine was in the engine computer by the battery. The silicone over the board had cracked and moisture was causing big issues. Opened the "black box" up and re-siliconed it and haven't had a problem since.

i think i have the computer that is inside the cab on the passenger side. I could hear a clunk when turning the key over when checking for the fuel pump kicking on. Can't seem to get the codes to come on. simular to another tread i just read.
Can hear the fuel pump coming on. there is a small black box (solenoid or relay?) that has two wires connecting to it near the battery on the fender wall. found a small hole on this little box. will replace soon to see if that will help.

No offense, but the Lazers were nothing but a problem for most who owned them. Dodge didn't want to admit failure, but I got it from an inside source that they screwed up on this model. If you notice, they weren't around for long. You may want consider dumping the resto job on that one.

No offense, but seeing as the 84-86 Daytona's and Laser's were the same car, problems with one can also happen to the other. It's comes down to how they were taken care of. I've had my 85 Laser for 17 years and had no major issues with it. The Laser line was discontinued after 86 because people didn't buy the whole "luxury" aspect of it, which is what Dodge/Chrysler tried to sell it as, a more "upscale" Daytona. That and people were more tempted to buy a "Dodge Daytona" because of the name. To this day people are calling my car a Daytona, so I just say "yep"... And I got my info from an inside source too...
