Default Gutting the Airbox

Anyone done this yet on a '09 Hemi? I want to retain the stock look under the hood and my previous experiences with vehicles proofed that a gutted airbox (cut out all restrictive mat'l inside the box) and add a K&N drop in filter will yield good hp/great sound and better flow for $60.

What restrictive material? Have you looked inside an '09 box? I don't remember seeing any, though I might be forgetting something. It pretty much is a big *** box with a pretty big filter, drawing air from inside the fender. I did notice that no filter in the box caused a power LOSS, as measured at the track. Putting the filter back in brought power back up.

I agree, don't remember any restrictive material but I had drilled out holes in another car with a drop in K&N to help sound/power.

In the case of an '09 hemi ram, any holes you drill in the stock airbox will provide the engine with excellent, unfettered access to hot air heated by the engine and radiator. Not a great way to improve performance.

No ya morons think a little. A CAI is essentially a device allowing less restricted airflow (and colder air) into the engine. Allot of aftermarket outfits offer fenderwell intakes - exactly what we already have on the truck. A drop in K&N and ensuring air getting straight into engine will help. Like to see data with this and the magic $300 CAI....

I was responding to the post above mine (which I found out through PM was just joking on his part). From a technical standpoint, I agree with you. In fact, what you're saying is pretty much what I was saying, especially about why poking holes in the airbox would probably be counterproductive in the case of the 09's.

I agree with this. That Airraid looks like a total waste. Buying a good filter should give the the most bang for the buck.
