Default 2009 brake controller install help

SO.... I need the help. There have been many topics and such. What do I need to install a factory looking in dash brake controller? Do I have the correct plugs tucked up under the dash or am I going to have to splice and such. I have been lurking for a while and now I am in need of a brake controller. Thanks

You can buy a harness that plugs right into the truck from Dodge and you just tie it into your controller harness. Or you if you get a techonsha (like a prodigy or P3) you can get a harness from them that plugs into both the truck and the brake controller with no splicing.

If you want the factory controller that came with the 2010's then do some searching in the forum, there are a ton of threads about trying to use that in an 09. Personally wouldn't waste the time.

I think it won't work in a 09. I used a Prodigy that just plugged in. I pulled the chubby hole lower left dash and cut the back out of it. Then just pushed the controller in. If needed it can be wiggled and removed/unplugged in 3 seconds. I do hit it with my knee once in a while getting in and out of the truck.

Well combo, Been a user for a while just have not posted in forever. Thanks for your 2 cents. Hounddogg, the prodigy ur talking about seems pretty much plug and play. Any more info or a link on that product? Does it by chance need a flash from the dealer? Im assuming that u have installed this in your 09 as well? This sounds like a good alternative from others I have read about. Any more info on that would be much appreciated. Thx Wes

Installing a prodigy or P3 does not require a flash, you just plug the harness it in to the truck. I run a P3 (newer version of the prodigy) in my 09. I've got mine mounted on a pod that fits in my cupholder so I can actually see the display and reach the oh **** lever with my right hand.

Thanks for the help. One more though. As for the plug and play with the prodigy, Where do I plug and when can I play? In the 09 do I have these plugs under the dash or where can I find them? I am pulling the trigger on a controller and also I heard that there was a flush mount kit for some of these controlllers???? Thanks for the input

The plug is under the dash. There is a picture here: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1652358-post19.html

There are no flush mount kits for the prodigy and p3, maybe others have them.

I have the Tekonsha Prodigy P3. It's the best controller I've used. I have mine tucked under my steering wheel. Now, I don't ever move my wheel up/down, so if that's something you constantly do, this isn't for you. it's a tight fit and moving the tilt feature presses on the harness at the back. I leave mine in one spot and it's fine. You can still move it, but for regular use, you'll prob end up breaking the connector contacts everntually.
It's Much easier to see than mounting lower and much safer too.

You gotta make sure it's pushed back far enough so the wheel doesn't contact when turning as the top of the wheel needs more clearance than the bottom. Also, the multifunction switch is underneath. Mark where you want your holes and verify you won't go up through your switch(keep your screws short enough to go through plastic but that's it and you'll be fine) I have an '08, so it's design is prob slightly diff so verify all clearances around the wheel.
