Running board ripped off...
Hello everybody,
I have a 2010 ram 1500 dbl cab w/ factory running boards. I was at the car wash the other day and the machine ripped off my running board on the drivers side. So I crawled underneath the truck and saw the great design of the running boards being attached to the body of the truck & not the frame, which all the mounting holes are now ripped apart. I'm kind of at a lose here, I spent a lot of money on these running boards so I don't want to throw them away. But unsure how to reattach w/ the damage that is done & how to resecure to keep this happening again. Or do I start from scratch and get another set, if another set does anybody have any ideas of a better set? Sorry for the long winded post, and thanks for your help in advanced...

Can you use larger washers? Just try to avoid something like this in the future once you fix it. Or, you can put larger nuts and bolts and washers in the place of the old ones on both sides and try to mount them on them frames somehow instead. I don't know if Id want to risk it happening on 5the body again or not...it's ur truck to make that call..
I have an '09 and at great expense installed the Amp power steps. The mounting was via crush nuts into the rocker panel. After the first year the one on the driver's side became loose, one day I stepped on it and it fell off on the ground. Lucky I wasn't flying along on the freeway at 70 mph! I contacted Amp and they explained it was Dodge's fault for having weak rocker panels and they sent me an upgrade kit which included threaded brackets that had to be welded to the rocker panels. Long story short, I had to find someone to weld the brackets to the rockers and completely re-install my steps.

Like they say, I guess you get what you pay for.
Seems to me if its true about the cheap Dodge rockers, and AMP knew it then why did they sell them to you? But then again, thats the way the world is, pass the blame to someone else. Not standing up for Dodge but I didn't know "wek"rocker panels ere a problem, they basically serve no structural purpose. I asked for running boards when I bought my 2012. Didn't ask price but was kinda upset when I found they were $500+ installed! But they are attached to the frame, where they blong and are adjustable.

I replaced the pulled out rivet nuts with these from McMaster Carr size M8x1.25.

The larger flange made a sturdy install and the steps are back on using the same bolts as before.
