Air Lift 1000
Are these reliable and do their job? I started pulling a heavier travel trailer and it makes me squat, yes I have an equalizer 12K hitch but I'm still a squater and it rides like a horse drawn wagon now... Hoping this will at least safely level my truck out, stop people from flashing me due to my headlights pointing north.
Its not squatting bad, the hitch helps a TON but there its ill some squat left..
i found them on sale at for $79 bucks. I was debating between these and the firestones. I am not going to get a compressor, just use my portable pump when needed for towing during the summer..
Thanks guys.

I have them on my 11' and love them. A few times a month (typically) i haul around 1,200-1,400 pounds of steel and the truck remains totally level when i use them with about 35 PSI. Unloaded i keep about 12 PSI in them. Truck rides great. I had a Firestone kit on my 06' but that version used axle tube mounted bags and was much more expensive and time consuming to install.
The install is easy with these bags. I did it on a lift but it can be done on the ground, just jack up one side so the spring is fully extended. Read the directions about collapsing the bag as much as possible. Once the bags are in i routed the air lines up and out to the inside of the rear bumper. I chose to mount the valve against the trailer wiring harness with zip ties so as not to drill any holes in the bumper (which WILL lead to rust). Total install time was under an hour.

I had their leaf spring bag kit on my '04 1500 and they were great. Actually went to buy the Firestone kit but a friend who owns a tire/repair shop in deep south farm country (where a LOT of bag and helper spring type kits are used) talked me into the Air Lifts citing he was having a lot of complaints from customers he installed Firestones in that were having the rubber bags dry rot after only a year or two.
Now granted this was 2005 and I've not read anything about the Firestone bags failing in a number of years now...

I went with Timbrens. 15 minutes to install, no air lines. Approx, 1200 lbs. in the box. Towing a 5th wheel. It works for me, truck is level, steady. They have been on the truck for 2 years.
They're not everybody's cup of tea.
When empty and hit a bump, the timbrens will make contact. But they are on a 2012 Outdoorsman with 10 ply rated tires so I really don't feel that much difference, if you have 20's on P rated tires that give you the smoother ride it will be a bit more harsh on larger bumps, rail crossings , etc.
cheers

I had them on my 2010. I really liked them. If you do get them it is a lot easier to disconnect the shocks and sway bar and just take the spring out to put the airbag in. They are pretty hard to stuff between the coils. As far as the air stems, I drilled a hole on each side of my license plate. Its plastic there and it wont rust and you don't have to worry about snagging them on something if you have them zip tied somewhere. Some people T the lines and have one air stem, personally I would keep them separate because there is always more weight on the drivers side.
I've had the Air Lift bags in for three yrs and they are still performing like the day they were installed. They even seem quite happy with the frozen hell of the prairie that occurs for upward of six months a year in these parts. Initailly was targeting the Firestone bags but got talked out of it - apparently (anecdotal), the Firestone bags don't like the extreme cold. Mine are plumbed to one schrader and contrary to some opinion re this setup, the pickmeup handles just fine. Even when lugging my better half's 7500 lb travel trailer.

I have been keeping about 12PSI in mine at all times. I think it smoothes out the ride a bit and it eliminates any wheel hop on highway bumps. For $80 and a half hour labor it's hard to go wrong. And if you ever do need to haul anything above average heavy you are ready for it.
