My 2017 also has lifter noise on cold startups. The dealer mechanic heard it and called corporate and was told that lifter noise for up to 30 seconds was normal. I'm not happy but I,m tired of banging my head against the wall. My 2009 never did it, even after 119,000 miles. I'm now concerned about the cam getting damaged after the warranty expires. Since the Ram warranty is now no better then the others (5 yrs 60k miles for power train), I plan on dumping the truck before the warranty expires and probably go back to GM and never buy another FCA truck again. Too bad for them, as I buy a new truck just about every 6 to 7 years.

I was under the impression that Dodge is offering an optional "lifetime" powertrain warranty these days? Just need to have it inspected every five years. Or did that go away? I know GM tried it back in the 90's, and got burnt BAD on that one.

FCA was aggressive for sales after the bankrupcy and gave lifetime power train on the 2009 to the original owner. That's what I had and a big reason I switched from GM to FCA. The warranties have changed through the years but to get the lifetime or extended warranties you pay a lot of mula. With the manifold bolts breaking on many trucks and a bunch needing new cams and lifters, I'm gone as a soon as the warranty is done. I think FCA should extend the lifter cam warranty to at least 100k miles.

At least. They should also redesign the exhaust manifolds, to fix the bolt breaking issue. But, those aren't considered 'safety' issues..... so, nothing will happen.

So have the service guy grab some keys for some of the new trucks on the lot, and start a couple up. If they make the noise, accept it as normal. If they do not..... point out to him that 'normal' would be something the majority of them do, not just the ones they don't want to fix.
