Perhaps someday this project will go from a beta to 1.0

Theres already a few other open source operating systems that have Windows emulators to support most programs that 2000/XP/Vista supports. Hell, you can get LINUX with a Windows program emulator and it has something like a 98% compatability (dont quote me on that number [8D]) rate for free...slightly slower since the emulator is in between the OS and the program, but still...

If you think back to 2002 many disliked XP. Same issues, slower that the older OS, many programs would not work, hardware drivers not compatible.

ORIGINAL: 03neonRT.perhaps Vista will just be remembered in history as another Windows ME?
Thats what I'm thinking now also. 2000 and XP (XP is better though) are the best ones that M$ has come out with. Never had any major software issues with XP (home or pro. I have both) other than a few hardware issues and a couple PEBKAC screwups. Possible that the one after Vista may be the one that ends up being very stable, very reliable, doesnt hog memory like Vista, can run perfectly fine on old 400mhz pc's as well as the new 64 bit quad cores coming outand finally comes out at under $100 (M$ offering a OS for under $100/ Yeh I know its a pipe dream, but ya never know).
I had a few annoyances with Vista, nothing that I didn't fix quite quickly. We got my dad a new Toshiba laptop running Vista Ultimate and it's been rock solid so far, actually performs quite well, if you turn off Aero glass it performs how I would expect XP to on that machine.

Keep in mind that the way Vista uses RAM is a little different than what most people are used to (causing users to look at memory usage and go WTF?) but it is not a memory "hog", if you start loading up applications that need the memory you'll see Vista easily give up most of that memory it was using. It's memory use is high when the memory is available because it precaches things to make programs load faster.

A quick google search on "speed up vista" will get you a few helpful sites with easy tweaks to make it run better, I've been very satisfied with it and I'm buying it from my school to install on my laptop. Before I tried it i had much the same view you did but it's worth giving it a chance. It's definitely NOT another ME, ME was pure garbage...

Now I have to get a new 5.8GHz telephone for the house. Apparently, the 2.4GHz models use the same frequency as the 802.11g wireless adapters. Can I still blame Vista?

Well there's nothing that says you can't, if any one company is used to being hated it should be Microsoft

I find it very odd you have to get new phones because of g though, we have g routers at my house and a few 2.4Ghz handsets. Both seem to get along just fine for us, maybe it's the brand you have?

It's a Uniden phone and they seem to be the brand that comes up the most on a google search. Plus the main base is only about 5 feet away from my router.

Can't. It's a Motorola SBG900 modem/router combo that needs to be within 20 feet of the cable hookup.
