AMD vs Intel
I've never had a complaint with Intel, but don't really care. Who ever has the best at a reasonable amount
There's the upcoming Intel Auburndale slated for 2009 that is supposed to have something like 10ghz too
I cant wait for the new Nehalem CPU's to come out later this year, according to some tests I've seen Intel has been able to run these things upward of 4.5GHz on standard air cooling

Right now unless you're going for a very basic rig go with Intel and don't settle for anything less than Core 2 Duo, preferably Core 2 Quad if you can afford it, it's not much more. I'm an AMD guy myself but considering the price/performance right now it just doesn't make sense not to go Intel. Incidentally the Q6600 quad core can be overclocked a good bit without much hassle.
