Is it me or does this site run slower than what is customary? I just joined today, but I have been surfing the site for a couple of weeks now. For some reason, it is rather slow. Are the servers working overtime or something?

 

It is the slowest site for me as well. It got alot quicker when they redesigned the banner though. I think it is all the animated ads they have. I am running the fastest DSL on the planet and it is lightning fast on any other site. It is also the most heavily advertised site I frequent, which is why I think it is all the advertising.

 

Sometimes I get the banner ad and nothing else. If I hit the "retry" button, it usually fixes itself....

The site runs EXTREMELY quick when browsing the forum via my cell phone using a mobile web browser. It doesn't load any of the ads or pictures and is extremely fast. The downside of this option, I can't readily see the pictures without manually downloading them.

It is handy for regular posts that don't have pictures.

It's slow for me, as well. I agree, its all the ads. Like if you roll over a certain words, i will bring up an ad. stuff liek that, the javascript, it's a bandwidth hog. GIF images aren't actually that bad, and I don't see any flash. So it's just the Javascript for the ads bogging it all down, i think.

 

On my media desktop pc, this site runs extremely fast regardless of ads and pics. SSSSHhh dont tell anyone. It might get slow if you do lol

 

if you run firefox with Ad-Block plus, and systematically block all the ads and signature pics, it speeds up about a million times.

 

Try using Firefox or Google Chrome with Adblock and your troubles will be gone.
