Well, I'm a certified Dell tech...and I do laptop repair plus I'm an avid gamer and I'm running Vista already as well.

The pros: 2GB of ram is GREAT. I run that in my work and home machines, and it enables you to do alot of things at once. Faster disc burning, more programs at once, and less lag between programs. The dual core is good, but not enough software takes advantage of it just yet. It's getting there tho.

The cons: The major con is your video card. You got the basic onboard card. Unfortunately, you just shot yourself in the foot if you wanted to do anything more then play solitaire on this machine. We order the Latitude lineup from Dell here at work. The Intel video chipsets suck majorly, and they are a joke for anything video wise beyond basic DVD's or CD videos.... they just dont have the power to play any game worth a spit. This also is going to be a factor when Vista comes out as well....because Vista is heavy graphics wise, and the basic Intel chipsets are a tad underpowered when it comes to Vista. I've ran Vista on both the basic chipset and the upgraded cards like ATI & Nvidia....and honestly....its like comparing a Neon to a Viper.....big difference. The harddrive issue that 94rt10ohio stated isnt that huge a deal, but what he said is true. The higher rpm drive would have been more usable with the dual core. Faster read times = faster work times. You also should have eliminated that Dell Entertainment trial crap and the Microsoft Suite trial software. May have saved a little money there.

dakota24: truth is, the higher rpm drive and the lower gigahertz chipset probably would have offset pricewise....so there goes your argument. Also, he asked us for an opinion....he didnt ask you to come in here and worry about him paying what for this or that....

If you want an honest opinion....it's a decent computer and you paid a decent price. I think you could have gotten it a bit cheaper....but if your happy with it...thats what matters. My only thing is you should have upgraded to the higher end video card. That alone is your only real downside on that laptop....

Ok...pay his payments! You couldve just said " Yeah it'll do, but I myself would've preferred this...", but no you basically told him it was crap; in a not so rude way.

it maybe fine for what he wants to do, plus that could be all he could afford; remember he has to pay monthly payments on it, and he is in college. The more you get; the more you pay! I hate when people say "You should've got this and you should've got that"...Well, If you want me to get this and get that; then you pay my payments!!!!
The HDD 7200 RPM would have been a better performance mod than the 1.86 upgrade, 1.66 was the standard, which is almost a push in price. I know of what I talk about in the computer world. Maybe someone else will benefit from the HDD comment, not sure how many will benefit from your "I hate" comment.
Over-react much?

The big problem (as already stated) is the Intel 950 Graphics. I have a notebook with the same chip, and I can run some basic games, The Sims 2 (my wife plays it a lot) is about the most graphically taxing game the notebook will be able to handle.
