Yes p106 (baro out of range) will cause the engine to die under load. When the map is detected as bad, a fixed vaule is used by the computer so the engine can run. It will not run great though. Cheap and easy to replace. It can be removed and installed by hand with no tools at all. It just screws into the intake manifold and has one electrical connector.

Strange... Did the map code only come on after you unplugged it and now it stays there? If so you just have a stored fault in memory. Scan it for any other faults and then reset it. Then see if you get any new codes.
Next I would try a fule pressure check. Check out the procedure in the manual in the post holy grail (sticky at top of second gen forum).

As for the map, unless the code code was there prior to removal, with your symptoms, like I said I'd ck the fuel pressure first.
As for the coil, you have individual coils on eack plug. I don't have a ohm value for you to check, but an easy test would be to change 6 with 1,2,3,4, or 5 and see if the malfunction moves (after a reset of the code). If so, they cost about $30. If not, it's either wire or PCM issue. I'd bet it's the coil itself though.
