Default how do you test the oil pump?

I have a 2002 Dodge intrepid SE 2.7L, I want to test the oil pump to see if its working before i go out and purchase one for $200 bucks. Is there a way to test to see if its working?

My problem could be as simple as a $50 tube and screen although I dont want to rip everything apart until I have checked every single option i can first.

well, get yourself and oil pressure gauge, remove the oil pressure sending unit on the right side of the engine and measure your pressure. You can pick up a gauge for cheap at harbor freight tools (usually around $20). At idle, the MINIMUM oil pressure should be 5 psi according to the factory service manual and between 45-105 psi @ 2000 RPM and higher. For me the best rule of thumb to remember oil pressure is 10 psi for ever 1000 RPM.
