How are you trying to adjust the timing? Timing is controlled by the PCM. Cannot be adjusted like the old days by turning the distributer. Would need a tuner. What are you doing or have done to need to adjust the timing?

I was told that I would have to take it to a dealer to get the timing marks

and

Or if you have everything off then

Note: If you blew a Head Gasket due to Over heating, Make sure you check the straightness of the head with a Straight edge. Other wise you are wasting your time doing the Head Gasket.

Also, these heads on the 2.4L has no machining tolerance, if they are warp, you replace it. Or find a Machine shop that is equipped to straighten out warp heads.

I got you pm. But you have the timing mark setup by steak59. Thank you. Your timing is adjusted by the intake and exhaust camshaft phasers. So the phasers are at DTC until you are driving. Then either one or both can adjust 5 degrees BTC or 5 degrees ATC. That why we use either 5/20 or 5/30 oil. The incorrect oil will kick the check engine lamp on giving you a I think is P0520 code.
