!2/5 followup. Headlights flickering again. Took to dealer. They said bare wire-did not resolve-then said aftermarket alternator. I said has 3rd alternator in last 18 months, then said ECM needs replaced, They would order a new ECM.. Battery was nearly dead-replaced (6th battery, 2 modules, 2 alternators in 2 years) I left, will NOT go back to that dealer after 3 diagnoses in an hour. Have new ECM ordered thru online firm and will have installed by local electrical shop when it arrives. Wish me luck. $3500 out in 18 months.

rogschumac, this is absolutely horrible & frustrating news. What year is your Journey & engine size? Hopefully the Dodge Care Specialists on line here can help you resolve this matter asap.

I am having the same issue, I have gone through 3 Batteries on a 2011 Dodge Journey. Right now it is in the Shop at Winnipeg Dodge Chrysler and they are telling me to replace the Battery as the Battery is causing the Drain on My car??? How can a Battery cause a drain on my car?? I Charged the Car on Sunday and Tuesday it was dead. Trickle charged it over night and it started this morning so I could take it to the Dealership. There are hundreds if not thousands of threads on the Internet with Dodge Journeys with the same issue. Some say it is auto headlights issue, some say it is the wires between the wheel well and the connections in engine area. Please someone help as I need my car to start everyday not just once and a while.

Default Maintaining a charge

I have discovered if I drive the Journey far I can park it one day but you never know for sure if it will start. If I do errands close to home for 2 days then I probably will need to top the battery up with a charger. If you park it two days you are definitely not going to start it without a jump no matter how old the battery is. I suggest you top it up now and then unless you have driven 100ks.
Interesting that 3 times I have had rough running , no power after after battery has been dead. Twice this occured after a dead battery but once fuel cleaner was put in it ran fine. The 3rd time my engine light came on when I started it and then it proceeded to run rough only getting up to 40klms an hour all the way to the dealership where the scanner said low battery again and I had driven it the day before. Since that time I am topping the car up now and then and it seems to be working except was dead again after not driving Christmas Day. That's 3 years in a row it's dead after Christmas.
I left it running 2 hours accidently af church last week. Whomever invented this push start with no shut off when the keys have left the vehicle should be fired. My dealer tried to sell me a 2016 Journey but I want a Key and NO Journey ever again.

Angry Rocket Scientist???

I changed the battery in our 2014 Journey today. Just asking, who is the rocket scientist that designed the battery in the wheel well of the vehicle? Two hours to get this done as I don't have a lift and convenient shop tools. Something is wrong when being required to take the drivers side wheel off to change the battery. Should be a 5 minute, in the parking lot of the parts store adventure. Looks like it was designed to encourage buyers to needlessly spend money at the auto repair shop. With the battery cost of $130, it would have been a $500+ bill I imagine.

Sounding off and frustrated, but got it done!!!

Default Dodge Journey Battery Discharge Problem

I have the same problem with much frustration and no dealer solution. I have had two new batteries, have worn out my welcome at the auto club and have little faith in the dealership. Outside the Forum, I have seen several suggestions that might cause the drain varying from not leaving the headlights on the auto setting, bad batteries in the rechargeable flashlight in the back storage area, a bad A/C relay, a glove compartment light not turning off and the list goes on but there is no consensus of a common issue. My dealership was quite ready to diagnose a bad battery where they charge an outrageous fee to replace it due to an unacceptable design placement location. My situation seems to be an intermittent issue that defies normal diagnostic tests. Is there a recall I have missed?

Does Dodge stand behind their product? I was told the journey does not have a hidden drain so whats up with that?
I am having the same issue with my 2013 Dodge Journey

I had my vehicle rechecked at my dealership for a parasitic battery drain. They found no unusual battery drain when turned off. That does not mean there is no drain. I have been advised there is a computer drain considered normal and they suggested I do not use my vehicle enough to recharge the battery between starts. They say it takes about 5 miles of road use just to replenish the battery drawdown from a single start not even counting on computer drain. If you do not use your vehicle regularly and run it enough between starts this may be the answer. I will hold further comments until I have investigated further.
