Default Factory v. Dealer Installed UConnect Question

The UConnect option is probably the only thing I regret not getting from the factory as I have a bluetooth enabled phone. I have looked at the kit available from Dodge but would like a cleaner install. So here is my question:

Could I just order the kit from Dodge and a replacement rearview mirror from a factory UConnect-equipped vehicle and use the mirror as the interface instead of the dash-mounted pod?

I have the electronics group so the display should work, right? I would just really prefer to have the cleaner look of the mirror as the interface as opposed to the pod stuck to my dash.

Any thoughts?

Nick

I ordered the mirror $130.00 and then there is a harness $26.00 that you will need that plugs into a connector at the bottom of the left Apillar now I found out the rest the hard way there is also another component you will need the service man calls it a "module hands free" the Dodge parts catalog calls it "telematics" it goes behind the glove box where I hope there is a plug waiting for it. This telematics module is around $300.00 so basically it would have been cheaper to have it added when I ordered the car.

Hope this helps

Just curious, was anybody able to piece together a factory Uconnect? The dealer
installed one is not really an option I can live with.

If so, what were the part numbers for those people interested in doing the same thing.

Let's see, there's a mirror, a harness and then a Uconnect brain (so far).

Can somebody post the Chrysler/Dodge part numbers for those items?

Thanks!

I was told when I purchased my car that since it didn’t have the factory installed U-Connect it would be no problem to install it later. If I had known that it couldn’t be done I would have found the options I wanted at another dealership. After I made the deal the parts department said that they could not install the rear view mirror style without voiding the warranty. So I am stuck with the dash mounted version and they want to charge 299.00 plus 1.5 hour installation as well.

UConnect is one option that I wish I'd ordered on my car. At the time, I didn't think I'd need it, and I thought it could be added later.

Well it can, but it's not nearly as nice.[:'(]

Nick, which Bluetooth enabled phone do you have? Also, who is your carrier. I've been looking for the right phone and right service.
Thanks,
Still

I just found out the hard way that the after market u-connect does not work the same as the factory install. I was ok with the idea of having to have it installed but then I found out it does not integrate with the electronic display or the dvd display like the factory version does. It works but not the way it should.

So, Has anyone had any luck installing the "factory" uconnect in their Magnum?
I would like to do it but only if it is the factory style.
Thanks.
