Default tire pressure

What tire pressure do you guys run? I live in illinois and it is dead cold right now. But I have goodyear assurance tires that came stock on it. The tires say 44lbs cold. The door says something like 32 or 35. I have been running 40 front and 38 in rear for the first year. But I have never understood if you are supposed to go by the tire manufacturer or by the car manufacturer. Is the suspension tuned for a softer tire or should I keep a little more pressure in them. I need to check them again since it has gotten so cold so any information would be very helpful.

Thanks 65, I will air them up just a bit. It does ride better when they are softer, but I think I have lost 1 or so mpg since I have dropped pressure. One question I do have for you, are they stock size tires you are running? Looks like you have custom wheels. I take it you go by the sidewall of the tire.

Thanks again for the input.

I run Nitto tires. Door jam says 33 psi. I run mine a bit low. I let the heat bring the up the proper pressure. When I crank mine up in the morning, gauge reads 27-29. Once I get rolling, within 10 mins or so, I am right at32-34.(cold weather)

I would think that 38-40 psi on stock tires would make it ride like brick.I have mine at 32psi with 18" Goodyear Assurance.

I checked mine it was 35 psi cold way cold in fact about 25 degreess outside. Door sticker from continential said 30 psi bled the tires down to that pressure. I think the max was like 38 psi i'll look again. My mileage sucks sinceI have 400 pounds of weight in the back for traction.
