If you're not racing and you're changing oil and filter every 3K religiously, then you can probably get by with a cheap filter and dino oil. The point of using syn oil is to extend the engine oil change interval. Search the net and you'll find gobs of opinions on this, both pro and con. I ran Mobil 1 in my Cougar with 7500 mile changes and the expensive Fram filters. The Cougar had 89K with no sign of compression loss or oil burn when I traded it for the Magnum.

I plan to use whatever filter the dealer wants, since my Magnum came with free lifetime oil changes every 3000 miles. I'm told the techs are not averse to tips and might "accidently" use the more expensive Mobil 1.

This is true, tech do like tips . I would have a rough time using the "wrong" oil though, our parts dept is pretty tight about the Mobil 1. It has it's own little spot and we only kep 2-3 cases on hand to make it easier to monitor.

The Ford long filter wil fit, I think it is a 8A in most brands. It is the standard filter for most 70-80's V8 Ford's.

That's the rumor anyways, haven't tried it myself yet.

I've been using Mobil 1 5w-30 with K&N Gold filters for the last 5 years in all my vehicles. I guess I've submitted to the hype of Syn's over Dino. I had an 88 Ford Ranger and only used dino and Fram filters and traded the truck with over 270,000 miles and the engine still strong and never burned any oil. I think if you change oil on a regular basis, dino and cheap filters will perform fine, but now that I've switched to syns, I doubt I could bring myself to go back to that combonation.

www.partsamerica.com lists the same filter for my 69 Road Runner and my Magnum R/T, and that's the one. If I didn't get free oil changes with my Magnum (the dealer offers it on all of their new cars), I'd use a Wix filter. NAPA Gold is the same as Wix.

I only used a Fram when we had a 97 Hond-uh CRV because it was impossible to get a filter wrench on the filter. That grippy stuff that Fram uses made it easy to unscrew the filter by hand.

Marvel Mystery Oil, I also am not sure what is in this stuff. I do know that for my carrera I used some as the I was having some "seal" leaks. High mileage - not driven a whole lot. Anyway to the point. The oil actually dried up the leaks. Seems that whatever is in the can will cause the seals to become pliable again. For how long who knows. Do I use it in SXT nope not at this point.

Mine is in the shop today for its\a first oil change. It is going to get full synthetic. I put almost 200,000 miles on my Impala and never had a leak or even minor engine problem. For my money if you go high mileage go synthetic.

I know people like Dyno oil but i just cant help but think.... $1.49 per qt. Plastic bottle is about $.20, Advertisement and sponcership $.10, Transport and shipping $.05, EPA $.15. Store mark up for profit $.30, Manufacturing labor $.10. Add it all up and subtract from the big number and that leaves about $.60 worth of product going into your engine. Multipy by 7 for the qts in a Hemi and you have $4.20 worth of oil protecting an engine worth how much??? Sorry Dino.. stay in the ground and push up Roses. I'll take synthetic.
I spoke to my uncle who is a head chemist for Model Oil Co. about the diffrence between the two and asked him to put in laymans turms and discribe the diffrence between the Dyno and Synth oils and hear is what he said. " You have a smooth floor. Cover it with1 layer of rocks that are 1.5" in diamiter. Walk across the floor. Is it slippery under foot? Yes it is. Thats Dyno oil. Same floor, now cover it with .75" diamiter perfectly round marbles. Walk across that floor. Would that floor be more slippery? Yes, because the rocks are not perfectly round and are difrent shapes. Your marbles are the Synthetic oils."
Sorry guys.... It made sence how he siad it. I hope the point carries over.
