2006 Magnum
Tilt,
As long as you are happy with your purchase, that is what counts! For me, I could not see paying $26,000 for a Base Model STX, when for $32,500 I got a loaded RT. I have heard from others that Canada wants a lot more money for theirs. This stricks me odd, as these cars are made in Canada, not the US... Just like my dealer's advertisement said "G.E.T.1" (Glenn E. Thomas Dodge) When I drove mine home, it had a dealer plate that read "G.O.T.1" [8D]

I would absolutely LOVE to get the RT with the Hemi. Especially after watching that movie clip (in the other thread) showing the Hemi Magnum launching. Watching that sure gets the juices flowing!! The engine sound alone..........well....you know!!!
But alas.....the Hemi Magnums I've seen around here (Alberta, Canada) have all been in the $43,000 to $45,000 (plus 7% GST) bracket. The baseline SXT is about $32,000 Cdn. Yeah, it doesn't have a Hemi......but it still looks hot!!
And besides, this is going to be our family car. With 2 littles ones in the back seat, safety and comfort are my big concerns.
Cheers,
Lyle

Congratulations on your score Old Bob. I'm sure you will like the 2006 better, with the improvements and all...
And you answered my question on why the hell there are so many SE and STX Models on the road. US Government mandate. That has to be the only reason, because I honestly don't see spending the money for this car without the Hemi... US Government Mandate, lol...
Jimmy, I don’t think this will really be equipped with the 2006 updates. I think these first 2006’s will be 2005’s with the 2006 designation in order to get around the CAFE standards. I think the changes will not occur until April 1st.
There is always more than one way to “skin a catâ€. I am glad to see that Daimler-Chrysler can beat the Feds one way or another.
I was in Reno last week and the salesmen were really pushing the SXT. The more of them they sell the more RT’s they can get.
Even though the SXT’s are less expensive, I think the way you do. Why buy a car you like because it is cheaper and not have what you are buying it for.
HORSEPOWER is what I am looking for. Never mind all the wimps and their environmental horse puckey.

Tilt (the wimp....I guess)
Hey Tilt,
I was not implying that you were a wimp, but that the environmentalists were. They have restricted the auto industry, and every industry known, for the past 30 years with their lawsuits and whining, that have raised the cost of everything that we do today. All in the name of saving the world from what I don’t know.
Sorry if you thought I was referring to you. If I were living in Canada, I would not pay $45000 for a RT either.

K....maybe I took it a bit to heart. I'll chill out.
I just hope I won't have to take flak from all RT owners for getting an SXT. I love horsepower as much as the next red blooded guy. I own a '66 Beaumont (it's like a Chevelle). I've been slowly building it up over the past several years. It'll be my power machine when all is said and done.
I fell in love with the looks of the Magnum, so that's all I want. I'll avoid driving a Hemi powered one....cuz that'll just make me want one. But with a monthly payment as much as my mortgage payment, I'll take a pass.
Cheers,
Tilt

I test drove an SXT for about 15 miles and I liked it. Its a respectable ride.

but you may sort of get a complex when always having to answer "no" to "that question". I've heard other SXT owners grumble about it, and I guess you need to brace yourself.

However, I think I have a good response ready for when that happens. I'll look at them all 'confused-looking', and say, "What'sa Hemi??!!"
he he,

Sooooooo, The only 2006 now under order are RTs to beat the 2005 gas mileage quotas, and these have very limited new options. The REAL 2006's with all the new options and colors can be ordered starting in April. I guess we will have to wait another month to find out what transmissions the 2006 SXT will have..will there be a 5-speed option for the SXT? Bigger brakes? Sway bars? The questions still go unanswered
