see thats what I was afraid of. If true I'd better grab a set of those BFG's because they are probably being phased out. but if something like the Pirellis could be worked in then its not such a bad thing.

I never thought of the SXT sizes, though. Gives me a little more to work with, although I wouldn't want to go to a smaller diameter if I could avoid it. Want them wheel wells filled , although thats only -0.6" in diameter.

Could you tell me what the width is on a stock 17" rim. I'd like to put a 285 tire on my truck, would this be too wide for this rim? I currently have stock 245's on it now!

i requested the dealer to recalibrate for the change in tire diameter....from the stock r/t to my 265/35/22s.
i was told that this recalibration was made when i picked it up.
however, according to dodgemech, and my best understanding, the tire diameter can only be adjusted within the parameters of OEM tire sizes. i.e., if someone were to buy an SE and upgrade to the 18" R/T wheels, this recalibration could be made. what i'm saying is, IF the R/T comes with the largest diameter wheels, the computer can not recalibrate larger sized/diameter tires (after market) beyond that which is on the r/t.
dodgemech, is this correct?

When i was in Daytona talking to a tech from SRT he said the dealer should be able to set the computer for ANY tire size we choose to put on the cars. He also said not to go crazy with changing the offset or adding to much weight, they changed steering parts on the SRT8 to accomadate the bigger wheels. In other words he would not recommend putting SRT8 rims on a RT.

The car will accept any tire size ever offered on any LX platfrom car, it doen't matter if you put R/T wheels on an SXT, it will work. There are no "other" tire size options, your info from the SRT center was incorrect. I suppose if you were real tight with somebody in engineering they might be willing to burn you your own software with a different tire size but for the masses, no.

Bummer. So we know that 215/65/17 and 225/60/18 are two sizes whose diameter we can use. Others? Is the diameter calc something resident in the programmer or the magnum? i.e. you can update the programmer but perhaps not the magnum, so is my Magnum's software keyed to allow only X diameters or is it the programmer that feeds it raw data that it accepts?).

that said, no more recalibrations for me gonna save a lil more $$. do the math, and it's a lil unfair for anybody buying a used LX platform that had 22s...

It's the programmer, the only one avialable at this time. There are about 9 or so different tires available. Some are the same size just a different speed rating.

OK thanks dodgemech! I heard today that Hypertech has a Magnum in its test bays right now and is hoping to have a programmer out by mid-year. Crossing fingers...

Here are the sizes shown in StarScan, not sure of which ones are repeated with different speed ratings though. And I don't know the speed ratings, just the sizes.

215/65/17
225/60/18
245/45/20
255/45/20
235/55/18

Note that all of these sizes are used on one vehicle or another (not sure about 235's), i.e., SE, SXT, RT, and SRT-8.

Wonder if you can program front and rear separately like the SRT8 setup (255 rear, 245 front)
