HO Alternator
I've recently installed a stereo system in my RT. I'm having problems with dimming when I crank it up. Does anyone know what the effects of installing a High Output Alternator will have on the Mag? Also, if this upgrade will effect the warranty on anything aside from the alternator itself.
I've also read that the Police package will have a heavy duty alternator? maybe i should wait and have dodge install one of these?

after much research...i've come to learn that capacitors are BS, they may help with dimming but they end up increasing the strain on the Alt. according to people "in the know," capacitors are just another product stereo shops push to increase sales.
I am no expert on jumbo size capacitors but I would think they would have some use IF your stereo system (mainly sub woofers) was exceding what the alternator could put out. They just store energy for a fast release. It would probably save the sub from being underpowered and possibly being damaged. I agree that it would put a strain on the alternator, maybe damaging it as well. I also agree that many stereo shops probably sell them to people who really don't need them. I don't have any on my stereo but I have seen some that you could use as a baseball bat, and in little cars as well.

Just some more info. On base SE and SXT alternator is 140amp. I have the 26G Customer Preferred Package and it upgraded the SXT to 160amp. I also just for the fun of it, did "build Your Own". Base price has gone up $150 and destination when up $50 from last June when I purchased mine. When I built it there was no option for a "base" SXT. Seems that all have 160amp and the 3.5L is the only engine option. On the sticker there is a $1000 option for the 3.5L. I wish they just would put the $1000 in the base price. Also noticed there is no "Standard Engine" in the STD EQUIP list on the sticker. Hmm a lil shady if you ask me hahaha.
JUST TO ADD SOME MORE INPUT - MY CURRENT RIDE IS A '97 LUMINA - I'VE ADDED 700+ WATTS OF AMPLIFICATION SPREAD INTO FOUR CHANNELS (HIGH END EQUIPMENT) AND ANOTHER SELF POWERED 200 WATT SUB. THROW IN A 1500 WATT POWER INVERTER AND LOW AND BEHOLD MY STOCK BATTERY/ALTERNATOR STARTED TO IMPLODE ..... WELL UPPED THE ALTERNATOR TO A CUSTOM BUILT 180AMP AND INSTALLED A OPTIMA YELLOW TOP DEEP CELL BATTERY - AND AFTER NEARLY LOSING MY BRAKES DUE TO FAULTY WIRING (TO/FROM THE INVERTER) THEN FINALLY HAD IT WIRED (WATCH THE GAUGE!) PROPERLY - WELL THE ENGINE HAS BEEN HUMMING EVER SINCE. UNDERPOWERING A VEHICLES ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. THE RT SEEMS TO COME WITH PLENTY ON BOARD (160AMP) TO HANDLE THE INCLUDED OPTIONS BUT IF U R GOING TO UPGRADE ANYTHING IN A SERIOUS MANNER - THE BATTERY SHOULD PROBABLY GO FIRST AS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A 180 AND A 160 IS MINIMAL. ALSO - NYS TROOPERS GET A 210AMP ALTERNATOR AND MY LUMINA'S STOCK ALT WAS 110AMP.....
