Default Possible new wheels...

I was just down at my local wheel shop looking to see what they had. Saw a couple wheels that might look good on my Magnum. Hoping to look around a bit more to make sure I'm getting what I want. Simply replacing my stock 17" rims for custom wheels. Can't afford new rubber, so I'm sticking to 17" custom wheels.

What do you think of these??

Looks real similar to the stock wheel. If you want a custom look without forking out money on new tires, check out a chrome dip for the stock units. There's a guy on the ebay that sells the factory units that has had a bath in chrome. I believe he wanted about $550 for the set, which isn't bad considering most wheel shops want about a grand with trade. I also found a site that dealt with chrome dipping for factory wheels. They were the same price, but you had no choice but to send your old wheels back...they charged a core charge of about $900.

I really don't think those look like the factory wheels at all. Factory has much fatter spokes that are the same dimension top to bottom. These have a lot more open space.

Nice choice Tilt.

Having seen the rim today at the tire shop, I can also say it's different. But I do see what Brandon is saying. 5 spoke replacement for a 5 spoke original.

I've seen the chroming ads. The factory SXT rims do ABSOLUTELY nothing for me. I will hang on to them for winter rims (with winter tires installed).

Here's one that I like more. It's certainly more money, but the wife likes them. And that always helps!!

I'm definately not opposed to the original wheel you picked out, Lyle, I actually dig the five spoke design. The wheels I purchased for my Mag are a five spoke design. I honestly don't remember exactly what those wheels looked like because I knew from the time I purchased the car they were coming off, heck I didn't even bother detailing them when I washed my car. I just remember them being a simple five spoke rim, but to me simple is good. This is why I recommended the chrome dip. I'm not big into the multispoke design but I like that second rim you chose. It sucks that there isn't a good program that will allow you to see the rim on your car before purchasing it. Most good wheel shops will actually test fit the wheel to make sure you like it before mounting the tires. I would get what you like, not what everyone else likes. The Mag looks great with just about any wheel I've seen so far, so I don't think you could go wrong. I hate to be nosy, but what kind of price are you looking at for those two wheels? Just curious.

You know, the more I keep looking at that 5 spoke rim, the more I start visualizing it on the car. I'm really digging that wheel. Like I said I like really simple wheels. Here's a pic of my 5 spoke wheels.

hey, i like the five spokes also, got a set of six on my ride, i know you said you dont want to go with bigger rims because of the tire cost. But have you checked ebay, i picked up a wide set of 19" michalin primacys for $200.00. got the wheels there as well, took some time to find the right size but was well worth it. Got the whole package (wheels, tires, lug nuts, mount and balance) for under 1300.00 not bad, not bad at all

Bradon, No worries my friend. That's why I posted it....to get reaction. I'm really torn. I like many of the 5 spoke varieties....but I also REALLY like that second rim I posted. The price for the first one is about $165 Cdn (plus 7% g.s.t.). However, keeping in mind it's a silver painted rim. I don't care for the painted alloys. The second rim is just over $250 Cdn. It's chrome (which is what I want). The shop that these rims are from does have a REAL good on-line set-up. They have a Java software program that does allow you to check out how it looks on your ride. www.kaltire.com is the site. Check it out......it has the Magnum in the program.

Undropped, The big issue with me and eBay (for big items like this) is shipping to Canada. There are TONS of kick-*** rims there.....but it'd cost a fortune to get them shipped to me.

I've given myself a loose budget of a grand for this. If I go with the second rims, I'll be over my mark (but not enough to stop me). I need to go hunting around a bit more to make sure I get what I want for a decent price.

Thanks for the feedback so far!!

Cheers,
Lyle
