Default what are my air intake choices??

what air intakes are made for the magnum? what ones uses an air box and not just a heat shield?

what systems fit the best? i know some have to be chessier than others.

i am thinking that an air box sealed to the rksport hood would be the best system, but i could be wrong. help!!!!

Wait for the Great CAI Face-off and my testing for heat soak, gas mileage, etc. on the stock system vs. my insulated system before you purchase. It's all coming soon. You can see my first phase on the stock system at: https://dodgeforum.com/m_230964/tm.htm
Pictures and narrative of my mods. are at: http://www.dodgetalk.com/forums/show...300#post530300

Hope this helps.

off the top of my head:
360 air intakez (I have this one)
K&N (works fine... loks ok)
DUB (looks better... works the same)
Mopar (best looking, other than the blue M sticker on it.... dunno if that comes off easy or not... works fine)
Valant (dunno how well it works. The RKsport hood won't feed it. Not a fan of the looks)

then there is the good ole modify yer stock one with a port to the grille that provides great results and costs only a few bucks.

Hey Grin I didn't realize you had the 360 intake. I was looking at it for my 3.5L. Have you been pleased overall with the company. It looks to be made a little cheap. What are your thoughts there? The kit I know will be a little different for mine, but the overall quality should be the same. Also, I know you dyed your filter. I want an all black unit, filter and all. What was involved in dying the filter?

Do wait for the great air intake test...............coming soon.

I have the 360 Air Intake system on my RT and it seems to be okay, my biggest complaint about it is that it does not seal up against the hood very well.

I did an earlier post here about it, you might want to search for it.

The biggest gap between the rubber seal and the hood was at the rear corner of the box (passenger side), the gap was almost 2.5 inches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not good for sealing out the heat from the engine compartment. I did remove the stock air silencer part from down under the car and I made up an aluminum lid seal for summer use, to help keep out the hot air under the hood.

I also am waiting for the results from the big shootout on cold air intakes.

The AFE works the best, at least that is what we have found. The Airaid is the most popular one, but that is more a function of cost.

i used the airaid kit and it seals to rk sport hood well. it is an upper box whith a rubber seal that the hood seals to, and it snaps it the top of the lower air box. 5 min job and works well. found mine on ebay for 169.00, seems to increase power and helped 1 mile to the gallon.

Problem with sealing them to a hood is heat soak. While in theory it should work well, heat soaks makes them ineffective. That is why Chrysler never made the SRT-4 hood functional, even though it was designed to be functional. I was talking to Stephen an engineer at PVO that did the testing on the SRT hood, and he explained what he found. The hood is the hotest part of the engine compartment since heat rises, if you packed insulation under it you might be able to prevent some of the heat soak, but you have to ask yourself if you can make enough of a difference to over come it.

Magnum3, I like it ok. It gave good performance and great sound and was very inexpensive. The heat box is a little cheezy, what with a cut out for a bracket and all.
MagnumRT has a valid point on the seal at the hood but I have a vipe hood which feeds it directly and get a pretty close fit out of it. If they spent just a little more time on the heatbox, I think they'd have quite the winner for the dollar. Overall, I'm quite pleased with it though.
can ya see the gap I'm talkin about?
