Default Help Battery Disconnect Question

Ok as you probalby have seen from my other post I am putting in a new Stereo System. What happens when I disconnect the Battery and reconnect it. I was told at the dealer when I bought it that i would have to bring it back in everytime I disconnected the battery for them to reboot my car????? Does this sound right? Does anyone know what needs to be done and if i can do it myself. Anyone disconnect their battery yet?

Default RE: Help Battery Disconnect Question

It is not bad. You just need to recalibrate your Electronic Stability Program.

This is lifted from another forum: http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=11313 (which was lifted from the service manual)

BATTERY RECONNECTION
Note: This reconnection procedure is to be performed anytime the battery has been disconnected.
1. Connect the battery negative cable (2) to the battery
post and tighten the clamp nut.
2. Install the rear compartment floor trim panel.

CAUTION: Once the battery has been connected,
review and perform the following information as
applicable.

AUTO UP FRONT WINDOW
If the vehicle is equipped with the auto-up front window feature, once the battery is reconnected the door module
needs to be calibrated. The door module requires calibration anytime the battery or door module has been disconnected
for any length of time. To calibrate, perform the following:
1. Connect the battery cables.
2. Using the window switch, raise the window to the full UP position. Hold the switch in position for 1 second, then
drive the window all the way down to the bottom.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM (ESP)
If the vehicle is equipped with ESP, once the battery is reconnected, the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) needs to be
calibrated. The SAS requires calibration anytime the battery or an ABS (ESP) component has been disconnected for
any length of time. To calibrate, perform the following:
1. Start the engine.
2. Center the steering wheel.
3. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left until the internal stop in the steering gear is met, then turn the
wheel all the way to the right until the opposite internal stop in the steering gear is met.
4. Center the steering wheel.
5. Stop the engine.

Default RE: Help Battery Disconnect Question

You know I have disconnected my battery maybe a dozen times for misc things and have never done any of this and never had a problem. Does anyone know why this has to be done.

The only weird thing is the last time I worked on my car I noticed that the back driver side window did not work up or down I just figured that the motor went out as they are POS's in all dodges from my history. Well after a few days it started working again and has not had any problems since.

I think the auto up windows are on the 300's. It may be an option on the '06 Magnums though.

JSkwarek, from my understanding, the only time you will know that your ESP is out of calibration is when you need it !! It may "calibrate" itself over time. Like I said - those directions were from the service manual.

I had no problem, the ESP light stayed on for 2 starts, then went out. Guess I will do the calibration thing anyway.

Here's how NOT to do it. Disconnect the battery, put your stuff back in the trunk, close the lid and go inside. DOH, there is no key hole on the trunk lid.

I unhooked my cables for about 5 mins to connect my trailer wiring harness and the only thing I had to reset was the clock time and station presets. I have a fully loaded RT.

MATCO have a lighter plug cable, at the end of the cable you connect 9V battery, plug in into the lighter and you can disconnect the battery cable without lose the computer memory. In Puerto Rico it cost me $28.00 USD.

No, you are supposed to recalibrate the windows, the sunroof, and the steering sensor.
