Default Tremendous loss of power???

Ok, so in the last 3 days I have put 350 miles on my 06 R/T and love everything about it, I'm glad I made this choice. But tonight I was going to pass someone and put the accelerator about 3/4 of the way down and the motor revved up, it dropped into passing gear and began to take off like a rocket when all of a sudden the power levelled out and it upshifted resulting in a less than miraculous display of power.

It did it so fast that I felt myself pushed back into the seat from the acceleration, but then flung forward when it cut itself off. It didn't miss or try to die out, it just seemed like it tuned itself down somehow.

Anyone else experience this?

Yikes, 50 reads and no responses... maybe I'm the only one this has happened to!

The only suggestion I have would be to attempt to 'recalibrate' the throttle?

I believe simply turn the key to 'on' (not starting the car) and press the throttle to the floor. This is supposed to reset the response by the computer.

What your Magnum RT did sound normal to me>>>If you want it to pull hard and not up shift so quick try full throttle when passing>>>also if you are going to do a passing thing down shift to 4 gear and do a full throttle>>>speed limiter will do an upshift back to higger gears after you go pass 5,200 RPM or so>>>> WOW hold on the Magnum RT will be doing well over 100+ MPH in a few seconds

Thanks for the feedback guys.

It doesn't seem like poor throttle response, it kicks in immediately, so I shouldn't have to do the throttle calibration.

I will try auto-sticking it next time I pass someone, I'm still trying to get the hang of that thing as it is. For some reason when I auto-stick from a stop, it bypasses 2nd gear and jumps right to 3rd under WOT. But I think it has performed normally under passing conditions at cruising speeds.

Has anyone found out how to bypass or remove the rev limiter/governor?? I want to be able to get her up as fast as she can go.

Hopefully in the next week or two my guy will have my Borla exhaust in and installed!

If you were going to pass someone, why the "only 3/4 pedal"?

I floor it when I want to pass someone.

Doing a 3/4 pedal may be sending mixed signals to the motor and computer.

Just floor it and hang on.......................

It had to do with the 3/4 pedal. The car will quickly upshift if you don't have it floored. I had it happen to me a couple of times when I first got the car. I use the auto-stick to pass now.

Except for one time (cuz I just had to) I have avoided going WOT until the engine breaks in a little. Now that I have passed 300 miles I think it should be ok.

I remember when you had to wait 1,000 miles to stomp on a new motor, but Dodge says 300-500 miles is good enough for break in.

I've always gone by the 'drive it like you stole it' school of thought from the time I left the dealers lot.

I went through a bunch of company cars (the best kind!) and I never once had any issues with motors.

Drove my RT hard from the day I got it and it's showing no signs of any issues with the motor..

Now the motor seems to be breaking in just fine, there is a noticeable difference in "oomph" factor after hitting about 850 miles.

I have been driving it a lot harder now, and have recalibrated the throttle a couple of times. (Not sure if the recalibration worked or it is in my head honestly)

The only problem I seem to have is that the tranny has no idea when to shift sometimes. I have seen it allow the motor to redline, and other times it will shift far too early. I would spend more time auto-sticking but in all honesty we have the poorest responding tranny's out there. Is anyone able to make a shift kit for a computer controlled trans?
