Default Advice on exhaust mod needed

Called a few local muffler shops today, asking about changing my exhaust. A couple places said that simply cutting off the rear mufflers(resonators I thought) right before the tips and replacing with straight pipes and a nice tip is the way to go. He recomended leaving the "suitcase" in there. I'm looking for a nice little roar, not an all out howl. I also realy want to avoid any drone.
Anyone done this? Hows it sound? Any drone?
He quoted around $230. Sounds high to me especially considering the only part will be the tips
Thanks

That is kind of high, you can do better.

Remove the suitcase muffler and install 2 small resonators or glass packs there.

Remove the stock rear resonators, replace with 2 Flowmaster series 40 mufflers.

You will love the sound and there will be no drone..................trust me.

My RT sounds just perfect.

On my link is the the sound of my SXT with Dynomax Ultraflow. No resonators. I had a Flowmaster 40 on it to start wirh and the drone was way way way way bad, so I swapped it out. Then Bob tells me about putting glasspacks on hahahah. Oh Well.

0-118 mph dynomax Ultraflow Here is the link to a vid I did, I had some codec probs, but the vid is on the 3rd from the bottom post on the first page. Yuo can hear the keys jingle so you can tell that it's not all the bad.

My 1st mod was leaving the suitcase and replacing the resonators with SS Tips. I paid around $200.00.
It had a little better sound but then I replaced the suitcase with Magnaflow mufflers.
Great sound but had the "drone".
I finally had glaspacks installed in the rear and all is well, good sound and no "drone".

you dont need glass packs or anything unless you want your car to sound like a old hot rod. I dont know what these guys are trying to accomplish with there magnums but making them sound like a old hot rod is just stupid because its not a old hot rod its a new hot rod. all you have to do is cut of the rear suit cases, cut of the stock tips from the suit cases, put in straight exhaust pipe inplace of old suitcases(some bending from your muffler shop will have to be done to get them in the original holes but its no big deal), weld on the stock tips and your done. now you have the perfect sound that i think your looking for. itll sound almost like a stock mustang gt or even a vette which sounds awsome and you have not even $100 into it. Now if you want to here something really cool you need to here my s/c 1000 h.p viper. sounds like a formula 1 car.

ViperRacing is the one who does not know what he is talking about.............................

Go with what the others are telling you, it will work.

At age 65 I have had a lot of cars and motorcycles, have tried different mod's on them all..............I do know what works.

Using the word "stupid" to explain opinions you don't necessarily agree with is a rather childish way to get your point across whatever that point is.

I had the "suitcase" cut out and had my shop replace it with flowmasters. I kept the resonators, but I think I might remove them and put either Zoomer tips or glass packs as the car is too quiet

Well I actually ended up doing what viperracing said (got idea from different site, didnt see vipers reply untill now) and yes it was exactly what I was lookin for. I would definetely recomend this mod to anyone looking for a nice deep sounding exhaust with no drone. The car will not be loud, but will sound good. So I guess viperracing DID know what he was talkin about.
Thanks for all the feedback guys.
