with the high prices of gasoline, i think i need to get the supercharger as soon as possible. are all of the bugs worked out of these systems yet? i don't want to experiment. i want it to work as installed.
Captain
What does the price of gas have to do with getting a supercharger?
If gas prices stay high, you are better off without the supercharger.

Shoving more air in means shoving more gas in too. Have you seen some of those super kits, they have 16 additional fuel injectors between the SC and intake manifold.

tony, I have seen nothing that indicates the bugs being out.
Open to a supercharger, myself, I have read every thread there is on the 5.7L supercharger. What I've read is mostly silence by those who have them. From here, it looks like everyone has had probs, everyone has been cominsated (hence the lack of nagative posts) and at least one has dammage as a result from the SC (hence the only existing nagative posts I have read).
Regardless if my assumtion is true, the fact is, we are not reading any"omg, you HAVE to get this!" threads like we saw with headers, every exhaust kit available and CAIs. It's obviously not ready to be sold yet.
As for your mpg intrest with the sc;
I won't pretend to know if it gain or decrease mpg on it's own. I can tell you what you already know that and that is the fact that you will drive it differently once it's installed... most likely bringing your mpg waaay down. I experienced this with my headers. It just sounds and feels different and therefor is driven differently. I can't not punch it anymore and with the whine of a sc added, there is absolutly no way I could resist a little scratch at every opportunity. The bottom line is the more your foot hits the floor, the worst your milage is gonna be. My point is just that the more goodies most of us add, the more our feet are gonna hit the floor.

Quick answer, no, the bugs are not worked out, at least for me, I am in the process of installing bigger injectors next week and back to the dyno. Well, my work is being done by one of the best shops in Phoenix ProDyno, so the dyno is there, both the owner and myself are still in a learning curve as to how to properly use the software and fuel mapping programs. (If your a fan of the show Pinks, the shop owner Charles was on last week with his fax fur covered 8 sec Vega) We are working together to be able to do installs and have them installed and dynoed and road tested by the same shop. Mine up till now has been running lean, and until I get the dyno results I am looking for I am taking it eazy. I will have a better handle on it by Thursday and will be happy to post results if you would like.
(By the way, there are 2 extra injectors, and with them programmed only to come on during boost it is a seamless operation that slightly improves gas milage - as long as you keep your foot out of it.)

in theory, anything that make the motor more efficient would require less throttle, thus saving gas.
the extra injectors sound like a band-aid to fix a computer program problem. it doesn't sound like the stock computer will be up to the task. i hope they get the bugs worked out soon. i will get one then.

RE: high gas price-->time for supercharger
Mine still runs like crap, engine is probably in need of a rebuild based on the way the crank case gets pressurized every time I boost it oil is pushed out the breather hose. So I've spent $6k on the charger and install, $400 + for gas on trips to LA, rental cars and now, probably need to spend another $5k to get a motor built. The only person who says theirs runs great is needsrt4 and heck his has been torn down more than its been together so not sure how much seat time he has.
Dillo - how did you determine you needed the larger injectors? Did you get the pillar pod from them, they promised me one but so far they just keep putting me off.

Yea, I got a pillar pod from them and the installed air/fuel is a big help in determining that I am running lean. I had the A/F innovative guage installed by ProDyno, and put it on the dyno most of the day 6-7 times to see if an increase in the fuel map made enough difference for me, it didn't, mine was installed with 36 lb injectors, and they just are not big enough with headers/exhaust. So I have the 48 lbs ones, and a new fuel map from the "killer package" and will see if that does it on Wednesday. I am very lucky to have a dyno guy that lets me in the control room or beside the car during the entire operation. We are going to work on it till it's right. (by the way it took me 5-6 phone calls and many e-mails to get the new injectors) ORIGINAL: obiwan

Hey guys with the GSM products how do you feel about the company. I know that they seem to be at the cutting edge but the overall lack of posts ether way about the S/C is a little disconcerting. I understand there are bugs when something like this is this knew. I am mainly asking this because of their new fan/traction mode they are currently seeing. It seems to have even more hype then the supercharger with even less info on it and many more people have already purchased it. Could we expect them same results as the S/C, I mean they said it was good to go and fully tuned and it seems to me that it is anything but. Just looking for some input form those who have dealt with them and their products before spending money on something that could very well void the warranty and/or damage my car in someway.

I've had a "Hemi" vs "Semi-Hemi" (5.7L vs 3.5L) discussions. 3.5L has the same "hemi-spherical" basic head design - 1 plug per cyl, thus my "Semi-hemi".ORIGINAL: 65standard

I can't figure out why Dodge hasn't come out with a 3.5L+2cyl to make a 4.7L V8 [ (3.5/6)*8)=4.66666666]. The same way that chevy cut 2 cyl off the 350 to make the 4.3L.
If you take the hp/L 340/5.7=59.65hp vs 250/3.5=71.48hp the 3.5L is a more efficent motor per Liter BUT
If you take hp/cyl (340/8=42.5hp vs 250/6=41.67) 41.67*8=333hp for the new 4.7L. If the they would do a factory CAI, I bet they could get close to the 340hp of the 5.7L. And with the less weight of the new 4.7L vs 5.7L get a better mpg than the current RT. Now I know there will be a lil less HP because of rotating mass etc.
The only draw back I can see is that on the 3.5L the Hp is in the upper rpm range, I can feel the HP kick in at about 2750rpm.
Just for grins and giggles I looked at the SRT-10 Ram and it get 9/12mpg for the extended and 9/15 for the reg cab. 81.97hp/L and 1254# heavier.
