transmission shifting...
My â06 R/T Magnum has a transmission problem. (I think). It shifts differently all the time. Sometimes it shifts normally, and then it shifts like it has worn clutches. Engine revs up and then it shifts like it is slipping and is slow to engage.
Taking off from a normal start it will go to second and then third OK, then going to fourth it will hesitate and the engine will rev higher, then the shift takes place.
I have had many cars with an automatic, and they shifted solid, never slow or slippery, unless there was a problem in the transmission.
Has anyone had this happen with their R/Tâs?
I like a solid shift that bangs me back in the seat, like I used to do with my stick shifts without using the clutch, WOT and slam it up a notch.

the bad thing is the dealer says that is normal. if that is normal they dont have a clue. it gets real bad when its winter and cold. they told me that i should not worry it has a 70,000 warrant, so i told them thats good it mean i get a few of them. love the car tranny sucks
Your RT is not shifting correctly, but you already know that. The transmissions are really quite good though.
If I were you I'd try another dealer. Many dealers are still clueless on these cars. Lean on them if you have to. I have an 05 RT, and had a minor trans. problem at 200 miles. My dealer gave me a new Magnum (SXT) as a loaner and worked with the engineers at DCX to get it fixed properly.....the first time. Only took a week. I've got 12,000 miles on it now and it has worked flawlessly ever since. My point...there are some good dealers that will work with you. Good Luck. Keep us posted.

Old Bob N.E. Ca,
Yup, just test drove a Charger and it snaps into gear. But before you take it to the dealer, try to reset the computer to stock. The car has probably 'learned' to shift like that. I don't like the way my car waits until it upshifts, but I always have my foot in it, and it 'learns' to drive like me. The Charger immediately went into 2nd as soon as I bumped the Auto-Stick... Mine waits for a few seconds or above 5,000 RPM, whichever comes first... Again, this is taught from me, as I rev up 1st to 40 MPH and let off, as trying not to speed, while still having fun, the way the car was built to be... I figure drive the **** out of it real hard and hope it breaks before the Warranty. But be sure you have every single required Maintenance done by the Dealer on your cars, I'm hearing, from the Fleet Sales, that they will start denying Warranty repairs, for lack of Maintenance. I just wish I could argue that one with them, but I can't... Drive hard, maintain just as hard...

I hope you don't mind, but I edited your post a little and I think you may have come up with the new "Magnum Owners Mantra"!
"Drive the **** out of it and hope it breaks before the Warranty expires. But if you drive it that hard. Maintain it that hard"
Thanks!

Had the same problem, and only MAJOR repair could fix it (temporarily). My car has been in the shop three times already for the transmission. It goes in again on Monday for again, another transmission problem. Continue to do your research, don't let the dealership convince you on anything.

I am going back to the dealer for this problem a second time.
The first time I took in in because when it was cold it shifted so hard that it would put your head in the back seat!!! They corrected that with a tranny flush, new fluid and grommet.
At that time they were also to looking at a second gear surging/slipping on acceleration. Its better than it was, but its still there. I am going to schedule an appointment this week for it to go back in.
I have a 89 Trans Am, 95 Z28 and 99 SSEi that shift better and more consistent than this car does.
Sometimes I think they are going overboard with the computers controlling shift points and firmless.
