Default Question for those with parking assist:

1. Is it only and audible warning or is there an LED read out too?
-If so what does it look like?
-Any pics?
2. Would you say this system actually helps you?
-If so is it worth buying? as most know the mags visibility pretty much sucks.

I got a Backstopper Reverse Distance Aid from an alarm shop. It was $200 installed. Four sensors and a 1" by 2 1/2" by 3/4" LED Display that I had mounted besides the rear seat on the passenger side on the plastic moulding over the wheel well. The display has two LED bar graphs on either side and a digital display in the middle that reads form 6' to 1'. There is an audible alarm that beeps steadly at a faster rate as you approach 1' when it is a continuos alarm.

It helps tremendously when backing up. It's reliable and picks up cars, posts, fences, any objects. I don't need to guess how close I am and it always looks like I'm closer to objects then I really am. I think it was money well spent.

One problem I have is that the alarm shop mounted the sensors at the bottom of the bumper and I get alarms as I back out of drive ways. Probably because of the cheap install which I think was $50 of the price. Make sure you get the sensors installed at the top of the bumper. I would have paid more to get it done like that.

That is interesting, I will look into that. Now what about the OEM system dodge offers, as it would be much easier to order it right from the factory along with the car.

Hyperbolic, do you think I could install this myself?

Is this what you got: http://www.audio-discounters.com/ca-5004t.html

That Backstopper thing is on ebay for $39 with $16 shipping. Not called backstopper tho, but looks the same. I sure would hate to drill my bumper...HYPERBOLIC, where'd they put your sensors, did they have to paint them to match and can you attach a photo?

The ParkSafe thing from Mopar is cool but $299 as an accessory. Unsure about factory installed. I actually liked it's readout pod better than the backstopper...at least from what I can tell about the backstopper photos. My dealer had one of the ParkSafe units and two sensors mounted to a vertical display. You could walk up close to it and it would light up progressively... green... yellow... red and beep differently as you approach the sensors.

The drilling is what worries me most too. Paying for the OEM unit is not a problem, I just want to make sure its good.

I got a different display and I don't know where the control box is to verify the name. I didn't watch the install, went to grab a bite to eat, I'll watch any install I get next time.

The main issue was cost to me. The system I got works well and was a lot cheaper then the factory unit.

Reading about the install makes it seem like a simple project and I was ready to install it myself when the alarm shop offered to do it cheaply.

Some of the systems include the proper drill and it wouldn't bother me to drill the holes.

They put them along the bottom of the bumper and they didn't paint them. The dealer was talking $800 installed and painted and that seemed too much with the cost of the after market units so much lower. I have a cool vanilla RT and with the black bumper protecter, black mud flaps and black roof rack I don't mind four black sensors.

Pics to follow shortly.

After looking at the back of the car I realized that the even spacing along the bottom couldn't be done higher on the bumper. I swear I've seen it done but it may have been done on another car.

I was hoping I could get it for 299 as an "option" if I was ordering directly from the factory. For 800, I would just get the NAVI+ unit and cam for the front, back, and aiming down from the the top of the gate.
