Default MAGNUM OWNERS BEWARE

Ok folks, fair warning:

On Friday they stole my '05 RT from the parking lot at my job - accross the street from the frekkin' Doral Country Club. Heck, I work at a BANK... anyway, enough of my bellyachin'.

They recovered my car by Sunday & I went to check it out. All they took was the seats - they seem to be very easy to remove. They were leather, but a little smudgy. Didn't matter - they jacked 'em. They also pulled out my dash and ignition switch (Hey! I thought you weren't going to bellyache any more!![:@])

[:'(]

I guess your seats are a hot item, so keep the club on & the lo-jack runnin'.

Just FYI

Rok Rok AUN, people.

That sucks man.
Guess I am gonna put a club on mine after all.
I have the Phob, which does not let the car start unless the phob device is in the car; however, guess I am gonna get a club

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought with out inserting your key, which is programmed to your Magnum, you can't start the car? The car is dead with out the key.

yes and no,
from what I understand about the key, they can use a code grabber and get it
Code grabbers just like the ones used to get codes from garage doors.
hence, it is a good thing to get the phob or is if FOB

I'm almost sure the Magnum key, has anti code grabbing, just like the good remotes.

there are not many things secure about any Dodge. Many of them can be put in gear or neutral without a key or stepping on the brake at all. Wanna have fun? Walk through any wal mart parking lot hiting unlock with your key remote and see how many Dodge's blink at ya. I'd venture to say there are less than a couple hundred codes for unlocking doors with a remote. Pretty crazy in this day in age.
If you have a ram van, caravan or an intrepid, Go take it out of park without touching the brake pedal. Scary if you have kids. Hell, that's scary anyway.

That's why I have insurance. It's just a car. If someone steals it, Dodge will make me another. If someone really f'ks it up, my insurance will ensure it's repaired.

I wonder if the old trick of putting a hidden switch on the ignition wire would mess with the canbus? There even used to be a lil keypad thingy that you had to punch in a code. All it was is a electronic on/off switch. Heck I even used the cig lighter(with power removed) as a switch once, you just had to remember to pull the cig lighter out (popped position) to disable the ignition. Plus you can take the lighter with you to even prevent someone from getting lucky as a secondary prevention.

Thanks for the info, glad I have not put my leather in yet (to cold). Just a suggestion to everyone who is concerned about code scanning. I just put the top of the line Viper 2 way on my car and I am very happy with it so far. It is supposed to have the code scanning block and it changes your code at random. Not sure how secure it really is considering there is always a way to get through if they want it bad enough. The only real drawback is the cost, I paid 700 bucks for all the bells and whistles and to have it installed at a shop (for waranty). Either way just a thought.

Thanks again for the info and sorry to hear about your ride.
