When switching to synthetic oil, how many miles should we wait?

I waited 1000 miles to make sure everything has pretty much settled and then let the crankcase drain an extra long time. Some folks wait 3000, others as little as 500. In my opinion, you can't really go wrong whichever you choose. A quality filter is also a must (especially at the first oil change to catch any small shavings). I am using the K&N oil filter. It costs more but I think it is worth it. A note about AmSoil. The 5W20 full synthetic is a 7500 mile oil. I have no doubt that it would last that long but Dodge has become very picky about oil changes being every 3000 miles so I would strongly suggest sticking to that schedule. Good luck.

I can't find Mobil 5W-20 anywhere, so I used Castrol (a BP company, they make some really nice stuff too) and I did notice I picked up about 1 MPG over whatever came stock with the car. I'm using a M1 204 oil filter too.

Seeing as that is the ONLY oil they recommend I don't think that should be a concern.

Thats always gotten to me....the same oil cannot possibly be the "best performing" in every possible climate or condition.

Down here in Florida most shops reccomend 10W30 oil and that is what I am using year round. You might lose a little MPG with it, But I feel better with a heavier oil.

Read you owners book, it says you can use a heavier oil if you wish to.
