I am using AmSoil 5W20 full synthetic and I am very impressed.

I am curious as to what you mean by this. I ran Mobil1 in my Dakota's 4.7. I can't say I was more or less impressed than I would be with any other oil, even the stuff they pump out of the giant drums at Mr. Lube. I just ran it because it *should* be better.

Are you saying, oil is oil? My plan is to go with the Mobil1 0w-20

The main reason for 5W-20 is so that the car can meet CAFE fuel standards. I would run a synthetic oil such as German Castrol 0W-30, Amsoil ATM 5W-30 or 10W-30 or Mobil 1 5w-30 or 10W-30.

If you really want to know how an oil performs, get a used oil analysis done on it after your interval.

I'm not saying oil is oil, I run Mobil1. However, I am wondering how one is "impressed" with the oil they are using. Can you tell the difference between cheap oil and expensive synthetic? I can't, I just trust that it works better.

My car runs about 10 degrees cooler than it did with standard 5w20 oil. That is what impresses me about the oil. In all fairness though, I feel that a switch to 0w20 Mobil 1 would yield similar results.

Cool, I haven't ever tried to quantify the difference between oils. I'm also not likely to do an oil analysis. I don't mind paying more for a quality synthetic, it's not *that* much more. I'll just assume that the extra money is worth it, I don't need proof.

im glad that i read this forum. i took my car today to the dealer to get my complimentary first oil change. just before the technician added the oil to my car, i asked him what weight he was using. he told me 10-30. he tried to sell me off that it didn't matter and i was adamant that he checked the books for the correct oil and put in 5-20. he had to do some research and consult with his superior. all the while i was asking the PARTS department guys if it mattered what weight oil was used in the rts. they too tried to sell me off that 5-20 and 10-30 didnt matter. then i even told him that the manual was strict on the weight. he came back with "the manual is just a guideline of what u should do." that pissed me off, i was goin to tell them to put in the mobil 1 they had and pay the difference. good thing the mechanics superior at that place new about the magnums, cuz he ordered it and picked it up while i was talkin to the parts guys. it took 2.5 hours for an oil change and computer recalibration for my wheel change! i'm losing faith in the dealership and dodge mechanics already.
p.s.
if u read this dodgemech, please dont be offended. maybe ur the "superior" in the service department that knows whats goin on. i was just really disappointed at the laziness of the staff to do some research on their own new vehicles. at least i got another free oil change out of this.

btw, doesnt the oil cap say 5-20 on it? i'm gonna check after work...

Yes the cap says 5w20. Most likely since you were just getting an oil change the shop just put any person on it. They may not have been trained on this technical beast.

I used Mobil 1 0W-20 fully synthetic. No problems. Bottle says for 5W-20 performance applications. Got a filter from the dealership. Local autozone and advanced aren't carrying filters for 05's yet.

Autozone has a PureOne filter #PL14670 and Mobil 1 #M1-204 filter for the Magnum.
