Default Magnum died

This is not lokking good for Dodge at this stage. A few weeks ago i had to replace the battery when i came out to my car from sitting all night and it was died. So i wnt over to the dealer and he put in a new battery. Cool right wrong a few weeks later i was driving back from me road trip south and the lights started to flicker. I got home and she died right in the drive way. I feel blessed that it made it home. Touch it over to the dealer again. They decided that it was the battery again. I put an interstate in and we should good right wrong. I was driving in NY this past week and the car shut down like some just turned the key off- unpluged the power. This is a lot of car to have just lost all power while doing 45 around a turn with a truck right behind you. Not a safe feeling. Its back at the dealer and one thing they did find this time is that it had a bad short some where. He told me some thing about ohms and curtain amount of feed back in the system. Well all i know is the we have put in three brand new batteries and the car just quites while driving and thats not safe. I dont think i will be keeping this car after it come back for long.

All I know is this dealer is not too brilliant with electricity. A "Bad Short" with a 12v battery system means a fire in seconds. I mean try it and see what you get. So the dealer is at best not explaining it to you very well. If this were my car I would hook up a cheap voltmeter and monitor the charge as you are driving. If it's 12V or so the charging system is out and it will eventually die. If it's charging and it still quits then it is a bad connection and NOT NOT NOT a short. (99% of people use the term short for anything wrong electrically and it makes solving the problem that much worse).

How long have you had the vehicle? Has it been trouble free up to this point?

I'm not a big fan of putting in all of those high amperage thumper stereos, amplifiers and speakers. But then again, I'm old school and old geezer (45yrs). The stock system with the boston acoustics was plenty loud enough for me. I also like to adhear as much as possible to the old addage ...if it ain't broke then don't fix it.

If you've been pretty much trouble free up to this point then you might consider toning down on the "lots of modding" for a bit.

definetly check your charging system, certainly sounds like an alternator problem. Also check the fuses, if the one controlling your alt has blown, well, its all useless. As well, if you do have a stereo, get a capacitor, or 2. At least 1 farad. There is also enough room in the wheel well to mount a deep cycle battery stereo specific. Optima is an audio brand, but expensive.

I may have described it wrong to you guys. I was at the dealer today and we tested the charging system and it charges okay. Then we did a battery test and it did not check out nothing wrong with battery just that when the put there metronic tester on the battery test good. When the hook up the cables the battery say check connection. I dont have any real mods in the car as the stock head unit with nav is in the car and sub from the dealer was installed thats it as far as mods on the system. I have done nothing to the charging system in the is car. He the tec put a test light on the negitive and did some thing and he got a light that should have not have happened. There is some numbers they said was way to high for the car . Ohms or some thing like that. They are looking at replacing the Alt and test every thing again.

You didn't answer one of Magmania's questions, as too how long you have had the car, how many miles on it? I have read in this forum some where, that someone else had the same problem. I don't think it was an earlier post from you SilverBullet.

I got the car in Jan 23rd of 05 and it now has 40K. Does mileage and how long i had the car has any thing to do with this issue that the car is not safe if it cutting off while being driven. The car has never had any issues and has been perfect. I have never owned a dodge product, And they are not getting off to a good start with me . yes i have had no issues but when you go to a dealer and they cant find the problem and throw batteries at it sayings the mods. I say what mods. Its the sub well its an OEM sub made by them so replace the sub. Its the nav well replace the nav its all OEM. I will give it another day or two and will sell it if they cant find the problem and go back to GM . Not they are any better just dont like Ford and i really dont want to go with Asian brand.

No mileage and age was not the issue. What I was saying was that you said you were going to get rid of the car just because of this electrical problem when after all it's been pretty much worry free up to this point.

Now if this issue can't be resolved then you have a better basis to can it, but if it can get resolved why get rid of it after everything you've put into it?

Also, who did the installs on the sub and nav mods (or after purchase adds)? Was it done by the dealership? And I would think that technically they can still be considered mods. Even if it's OEM products, they were after production adds to the car (not what originally rolled off the factory line).

Well ...good luck with that.

The car has been great, I dont want a car that cuts off while i am doing 70 + on the road or worse my wife could be in the car and she just cant handle some thing like this happening. I just got back from the dealer and they cant find the problem. they want to put an onbourd thing in the car and wait till it haapens again.. As of right now they cant fix it. So what now. The amp is a item dodge sells. the nav is a item the dodge sells. i got both item from Dodge and if it does not work they dodge should fix the problem as they did the install . I am a bit upset at the service i have gotten from this dealer after i got two cars from them in lees then a year. dont get me wrong like i said i love the car but cant deal with a car that has electrical issues.

I may have done my car a diservice. I was installing some sound proofing and it had the alumunum backing and it could have been laying on my battery. Causing it to go died. I have to wait and see if it does it again as the dealer just cant figure it out and this was brought to my wife as she asked me what have i done in the back of the car sense this started happening.
