Default Problems Shifting Out of Park

Has anyone else here had a problem shifting out of park? Every now and again when I start the car up the shift won't come out of park and I don't want to force it. Usually I just sit there for a few minutes and then try it again and most of the time it works other times it doesn't. Took it to the dealership and of course they said nothing was wrong. But its starting to happen quite often. Any one else had this problem.

This is probably a stupid question but one that needs to be asked ...you know that you have to depress the brake pedal right?

Yes I had this problem..Parked the magnum to wash it and then could not get it out of park. Had it towed to a dealership only to have it pop out when put onto the flatbed so nothing could be done. Then returned to the selling dealership for service..told what had happened and showed the bill ..was told well its ok now which now made me nervous if I traved stopped and was stuck..soooo after waiting an hour at the dealership for a simple oil change in comes the service manager saying "I guess you were right" The magnum was stuck on his lift!...They had to changed the linkage and all has been good since BUT PLEASE NOTE!!!!!!! I was told IF it happened again lift up the small change bin on the right side of the console and look in..you will see a small red button..push that and it is an emergency release!!!!!! with the key on the on posistion........ Hope this helps Gary

I'm having the same problem right now, Suicide.

There is theBrake Transmission Shift Interlock System (pressing the brake to allow shifting out of park) for which there is an override switch inside the shift panel - but that's not what's locking for me...

I can get past that lock through either depressing the brake, or engaging the override, but the car still won't come out of park. I've tried rocking (even though I'm not on an incline) the car, resetting the electronics by removing and replacing the negative terminal on the battery.

I would love to hear what worked for people.

Thanks!

Here's what my problem was:

The pink plastic hook piece that holds the spring broke, had to replace the whole shifter.

I have the same problem. I've got to replace the whole shifter assembly. Thanks Hemi22 for the great photos. It sounds like this is going to be a problem for all Magnum owners.

I was rearended when mine started hanging up. They cleaned it and said it would be fine. I also have a jerking in the rear when I take off which was happening before I had the wreck. My Magnum is a 2006 and is almost at 50,000 miles. I have had it serviced for a sensor going out and a month later it is doing it again. The dealership told me that the engine is missing but driving it with the engine light on is OK. I am not so sure. I don't think they want to repair their original problem. Any suggestions????
