Default SXT or Hemi

My wife and I are looking at Magnums but not sure to go with an SXT or Hemi. Would like to know which is recommended and real world fuel economy comparison?
Thanks

I personally love the hemi, it is well worth the extra money, as for mpg, look for 15 to 18 in town, and 21 to 25 on the highway. I really dont think the sxt is a whole lot better but of this I cant confirm, but less power for same weight, should cause engine to run harder.

i have them both. the sxt is more than powerful enough and can crack a high 15 second quarter. both are great cars.

I just bought an sxt and its more than enough power for everyday driving. As mpg difference I cant really tell yet only filled it up once and got 17.9 mpg in town

Well fuel economy wise the isn't a big difference between the SXT and the R/T, especialy given the performance difference, only 2mpg and the R/T at least can get it's EPA fuel economy, mine can get over it actualy, i've gotten 26mpg on the highway.

Basicaly between the SXT and R/T i'd say fuel economy isn't a huge concern as they are close, it's more how much do you want to spend and how much performance do you want.

If your insurence is charing you an extra $5000 over 5 years for an R/T over an SXT then they are ripping you off big time, i'm also under 30, 27 when I bought my R/T and it won't even cost me $5000 total over 5 years, let alone 5000 over what an SXT would, was less than $100 a year more.

Getting an SXT is like choosing a single breasted girl friend - it's OK, but more is better!!

MPG? My Hemi gives 25+ cruising at 65.

Also, come sale or tradein time, you'll sell the Hemi easier and get a larger % of what you paid for it back! In the meantime you'll enjoy that Hemi every day!!!

I drive an R/T with the 5.7 liter Hemi.
In my opinion it is the only way to go.
My wife chose the car, my daughter chose the color
and I got the engine choice. I have driven four and six cylinder
cars since the 70's. I was thirsty for a V8. The car runs fine
except for a rough idle I have felt from day one. I understand it
is attributed to the cam chosen by the factory in Mexico.

The car cruises without fail and can still smoke the tires
at will (with the ESP off). The best mileage I have gotten
is 23 mpg on a long trip running at 70 mph. Around town it
sucks serious petrol (89 octane, remember).

Yep John S. you said it right. I drove a Hemi then tried the SXT and it just wasn't the same. I was driving a POS Nissan Sentra and other 4 bangers for years and when it came time to buy a newer ride, I just couldn't resist taking a Magnum for a spin. It was love at first drive, the next week I when it came time to buy, I got a wicked deal onmy 05 RT and have not regretted it since.Gas milage is heavy if you drive it heavy (sometimes who can resist), but drive sensible and on the highwayit's OK.
Remember, it's a 2 ton vehicle so gas milage will be heavy but it depends on how fast you want to get where you're going and what you want to haul/pull or carry.

Get the Hemi. When you go to sell it, the Hemi will still be cool, and the V6 will still be the V6. People looking for a Magnum aren't driving a mini-van for a reason - the style and performance of the Magnum makes it an upcoming classic. Given the option, no one looks for a classic vehicle that has a 6 when an 8 is available.
