My magnum is crying
Ok, so I've been a lurker for a while. First time to post. I have a red 05 Magnum SXT that I have had since june 05 w/ 63,000 mi on it (I drive ALOT) I absolutely LOVE my car and all the looks and questions and stares I get. The only the custom I have done really is Helo cyber 18" chrome wheels w/ 255/55 tires on them and a bumper sticker on my back window that says "You have just been passed by a girl"
Anyway, there is a point to me posting. Last year it didn't get cold enough for my car to do this too much, so I dismissed it, but this year is much more normal weather wise down here and I am noticing that when my Magnum is cold and I start it, it literally sounds like it is squealing in pain. I work nights and the people I work with stare at me in the mornings when I start my car and not for a good reason. The colder it is, the worse it is and it won't do it once warmed up, so even though I have extended warranty, I know she won't act up for them (she has a bit of a bad rep at my dealership for being difficult) I had a rattle that took them almost a year to find and one guy quit because of it and other cars w/ rattles! (I swear I am nothing but nice to those folks!) Anyway, I did a half-hearted search on the forums, but alas I am lazy and thought I would skip it and see if anyone else had this prob and what in the heck it is. I was thinking maybe heater core, but I would think it would do that all the time if that was a problem. Otherwise, she runs great and I love her almost more than my husband! (Don't worry, I know a little about cars even though I'm a woman, so feel free to use real terms. Before I got my Magnum I worked on my cars myself)

If the squealing is like the one i had after a rain here in florida all i did was apply some belt dressing to the belt and put a little WD 40 on my pullys to help keep moisture out.that worked for me instead of some people trying to rev it out...good luck hope this helps
I kind of wondered if it was the belt, but the sound is a little different than a slipping belt. It is really hard to describe except it's like a highpitchedsteady squeal. It's loud enoughthat my two year old will actually ask me, "what's that momma?" and then say "Momma's car is crying." Kinda of sad. You can't rev it out either. In fact if I don't give her the opportunity to warm up, you hear it driving down the street getting louder w/ the higher rpm's of the engine. I know a lot of this still sounds like a belt, but it only does it whenthe temp outside is below 45 and only with the first start of the day. Thanks so much for your input.
yeah, I've got extended warranty. I'm just worried she won't act up once she's warm and that would mean they would have to keep her overnight and I hate that, but that may be what I end up having to do. Oh well. Any other suggestions would still be welcome though!
i agree, it's probably the belt or pulley's....tell us when you find out.

Well I finally got my car back from the dealership. When I took it to them last Tuesday, they immediately asked me to leave it and they kept it till Friday morning and had me drivinga minivan [:'(]. My husband has aGrand Caravan thathe loves, but sorry I aint the soccer mom type! Their verdict was a belt tensioner which did make the sound quieter, but it is still noticeable in the morning so I'll be going back. I wonder if it could be a lower pully messing up aswell. They did replace the belt too. Oh well, my girl loves to be a mystery. They've grownquiet used toit up there! They also replaced the multi function switch so my wipers would quit picking their own speed.
Ive had my share of belt auto-tensioners go on my past two Bonnevilles. They typicaly make noise and get noiser before they go.. If they go, they typically throw the serpentine belt any you need to get it somewhere for repair quick as your alterator and all other power stuff stops working. (I guess the magnum has one belt as well)
My Magnum R/T (05, 11K miles) has made a short, loud WHOOP when started in the recently cold (12-20 degrees F) early AM...
Good luck with it!
