Default Newbie + Exhaust Question

Hello all,
I just bought my first car in about 3 years (have had two trucks getting a third soon) and I decided to go with an 04 Neon SXT (Solar Yellow). Since I have become a truck guy I really don't know a thing about spicing up cars. I do know enough to tell myself that I need to change this crappy factory exhaust that comes standard on the SXT.
I live in the Virginia Beach, Va area and the police are very strict about their after-market exhaust law. They infact are completely illegal and tickets are written all of the time. I was told be a local muffler shop that the only way around this is to buy a mopar exhaust. I am thinking about buying the SRT-4 Performance Exhaust System (P4510461) that mopar offers and I would appreciate any advice or even sound clips from anybody who might have made this mod.
I would like to add that I already know the exaust system will fir so that isn't an issue.

I don't know how the SRT4 exhaust upgrades are, but I know the stock one has no muffler, just a resonator and it would be loud as fock on a N/A car since there is no turbo to quiet the car down some. So I would doubt that a SRT4 exhaust would be the best thing for you especially with them being that strict. I have a magnaflow muffler on mine with 2.5 inch piping, its loud, but depending how on I'm driving its not that loud.

There are quite a few chocies out there. I would go with something that looks close to stock, maybe take your friends srt-4 exhuast and have a mufler shop cut a good muffler into it, if thats possible.

I'm sure it is. There are "bullet" mufflers that you can get to put in place of the resonator that should quiet it down some.

I was also thinking about getting an srt-4 exhaust on my car until i realized the srt- has a turbo and doesnt need and exhaust. therefor it doesnt need back pressure and our cars w/o turbo's do. It will only slow you down. Get an aftermarket exhaust. apexi cat back sounds nice.

You would still have more than enough backpressure from your catalytic converter, but your exhaust would become extremely loud and get you lots of tickets quick. If anyone wishes to put an SRT-4 exhaust on their Neon, you will have to add a muffler into it somewhere or it will get you in deep #%%&. The best place would be to have the rear section removed where the exhaust has the M shape and put in a dual outlet (an outlet on each side) muffler like the Flowmaster 80 series.
