ive had one of each generation and also a 05 that i would consider the unofficial third gen. my favorite years are the 00-01 and thats what i voted. i absolutely love my 2000, the way it steers and handles is far superior to my 05. however, i would buy the newest and lowest mileage that you can afford if this is going to bea DD.

Depends what your looking for...but don't buy a 2000. The 2001 and 2002 model years had the R/T and ACR trim levels, and the 03-04 also had the R/T. If your looking into modding with big cams and what not, go for the 00-02. If your looking for a very reliable DD, get an 03-05. As far as looks are concerned, the 2002 R/T has a great front end, and the 03-05 with a Mopar Lip and eyelids looks fantastic as well.

So, it all comes down to what your looking for in the Neon...

Yeah well, I would do an 01-02 R/T or whatever.

03, I didn't think there were 04 R/Ts....

yea thats true.car companys made a huge transition in the past seven years with these cars.they're going more luxury and old people style with chrome in the front not on the wheels.thenewer the car is then the more harder it is to change to performance parts.but its still nice and sexy.lol...

I would go for the classic older style. They were smaller.
