What's the rpm at 70 mph for a 2001 Neon?
Curious question. I recently bought a 2001 Neon (SE). Really love the car (black with spoiler). I bought some nice 14" rims and tires (P195/60R14).
I notice at 70 mph, the rpm is 3000. My wife recently rented a 2005 Neon. It has stock 15" rims with tire size 185/60R15. For this car, 70 mph reads at just over 2500 rpm. I'm wondering why almost 500 rpm difference. Dunno if it's the tire size or the model year. My tire measures about 22 1/2 inches high and the 2005 measures at about 23 inches high. Dunno if that half inch difference would result in a 500 rpm difference at 70 mph.
Would love to hear comments. Thanks.

yo man ill check when i leave work in a few and get back to you.i belive it should be around 2500 or close to it.4th can start anywhere but it should start around there.i have an 02 es so ill get back to ya in a few...
I've heard about the 3 and 4 speed transmissions. Mine shifts 3 times. If it was a 3 speed, it should only shift twice. I know it's stock because I knew the owner and he didn't do anything to it.
The reason for that is the 00-02 neons have a 3 speed auto, and the 03-05 have the 4 speed auto. Im pretty sure my 00 rpms are around 3000 at 70. I have 14 inch steelies right now, not sure if that would really effect rpms that much.

When you say "4th", you mean 4th gear? Both of the ones I'm referring to are automatic transmissions.

So has anyone checked at 70 mph yet? (trying to post a reply again). I guess mine has OD as it shifts 3 times. If it was a 3 speed, it would only shift twice.
MatOOes, what size tire do you have on those 14" rims?
