Did you swap the cam position magnetic over to the new cam? We didn't on our '97 SOHC when we installed a Crane Cam - it would start but hardly run. We also got a CEL. Installed the factory cam position trigger magnet and ran fantastic! Pulled harder than our stock '98 DOHC.

But definitively purge the fuel system of that old gas - make sure your injectors are fully functional.
