Default Problems at the Strip...

so i went to Silver Dollar Raceway tonight and Raced my car in the 1/4 for the first time,i always thought my car was suppossed to run a low 17 stock, its an 04 SXT ATX, i know the MTX should run a low 16 so i thought th ATX would run a low 17?? well my best time was 18.412 @ 76.07 MPH, that is terrible, i was very dissapointed in the car, do you know any reason the car would run that slow???? here is all the stats from tonight for this particular run....
R/T- .588
60'- 2.879
330- 7.930
1/8- 12.013
MPH- 61.07
1000- 15.465
1/4- 18.412
MPH- 76.07
i was goin up against a fauxbody mustank and got it handed to me big time he ran a 13.2 @ 109.64, please if you can tell me something that may cause my car to lack power like it does i would appreciate it very much...

Start buying stuff for your engine...

Cold Air Intake, 60mm throttle Body, Underdrive Pully. Those should help you quite a bit.

Stock ATX puts 20 HP less to the ground than a stock MTX. All the bolt-on's available aren't going to make you as quick as a tranny swap would. Low 18's sounds right for that heavy of a car. Sorry for the bad news...

No, your car is only putting 91 HP to the ground, give or take a pony or two. Probably less. Only the 1995 SOHC Neon achieved its advertised HP rating of 132 HP. The camshaft was changed for the 1996 model year and dropped flywheel HP to 128 HP. Recently - definitely for the '04 model year - the compression ratio was dropped from 9.8:1 to 9.3:1 for regular SOHC's, lowering power even more (2-3 HP by most accepted guidelines). Dodge is still allowed to advertise the car as 132 Hp, even though it really isn't.

Drivetrain losses happen. With manual trannies, most people use a 15% guideline. I've found a 10% + 10 HP is more accurate as power goes up. There are no good guidelines for auto trannies, but most factory units run in the 20-25% HP loss range at best. I have seen dynos from a bone stock 1995 Neon SOHC MTX hitting 111 HP. I have seen dynos from a bone stock 1995 Neon SOHC ATX hitting 91 HP. Maybe the 4-speed has less drivetrain losses than the 3-speed, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Your car should weigh about 2800 pounds with driver and whatever you keep in the trunk, glove box, etc. (dry weight is 2635). At sea level, on a nice day, your car should be running low 18's at just under 75 mph using various calculators available on the web. With the same weight, same engine, and a manual tranny, the car might run very low 17's at just over 80 mph.

Try low 16s. I ran 16.3 at around 85mph completely bone stock with my neon...that is MTX. I have since got that down to a 16 flat at 87mph with a filter and catback exhaust.

Yeah but with how much more HP then he has...80? If i had the same HP as you in my car I'd be a good second or more faster.
