Sup guys! Need some help here! I have a 02 Dodge Neon. Its automatic. The car wont shift after first gear. Dont know whats the problem here. Anyone ever experienced this problem. It also go into reversse and drive pretty hard.

I'm going to guess you have a 4 speed automatic. If it is 41TE transmission, you maybe what is called limp-in mode. Is the ck engine lite on? The cause would be just a guess, but you may have lost either an input or output sensor.

 

Why would you have to guess it's a 4speed? Wouldn't it be best to direct the problem by finding it out if it's having any transmission codes? I'd think that if the guess on a bad output speed sensor would show up with no speedometer reading?

 

Try to replace your shift solenoid. Always check your ATF fluid.
Check if no water mixing the fluid. It suppose to be red and not cloudy red.

 

I'd recommend you have someone with tools and knowledge diagnose the problem before you guess at parts.

 

I am having similar problems. Car runs fine and shifts from 1 -2 just fine but won't shift past 2nd, just high rpm's. Changed fluid with no luck, next guess is shift solenoid, anybody know where it's located?

 

The solenoid pack is on the front of the trans below the air filter box.

 

My daughter has an 02 neon that wont shift or go above 40 mph I have replaced the shift solenoid and input and output speed sensors. That did not fix, it any other ideas?
